As a kid people would always tell me how I was "naturally gifted" at art like no! It's just that I was obsessed with drawing Sonic (and other things I liked) and if I had a drawing implement and a blank canvas of any kind I would draw him. The key was that I did it, over and over, not latent talent.

"Natural gift" is such a fucking copout. No one has natural gifts, we're all born underbaked and need to learn how to hold our heads up the right way. Every single thing you do, from your stride when you walk to eating to art, is a learned skill. The "natural gift" does not exist.

Honestly this is an excuse.

I know plenty of people who are not “naturally gifted” who do art.

It requires effort to learn. I feel you did not approach it correctly or think things happen over night.

Also hard work and skill is not “naturally gifted” as that undermines their efforts to draw.

I'm having that thing where something provocative just seems like common sense cause I've been thinking about it for months and years, but man this book rocks.
What, then, is transmisogyny? It is the process by which those conscripted into the male sex under patriarchy are denaturalized and dehumanized, being demoted from potentially liberated agent to subjugated object. It is the intensification of misogyny in a manner that does not merely enforce sexual difference but explicitly penalizes the failure to uphold it. It is the degendering of the male subject, enacted to reconstruct her into an un-person who cannot be considered to be wronged, violated, or otherwise harmed, upon whom sexual exploitation and feminized labor extraction can be enacted with impunity. More broadly, if misogyny is the force that elevates men at the expense of women, then transmisogyny is the complementary force that makes examples out of those who dare to turn their backs on the resulting gendered rewards. Transmisogyny is the reminder, the warning, the deterrent: “Be the man you were meant to be, or else.”

More and more I see this happening in discussion of the struggles of trans women. "Transphobic laws hurt cis women, too!"
The message is always that we must relinquish ownership of our struggles, becoming subletters of it instead.

An idea that came to me earlier today, and one that I knew it was my divine purpose to complete: WARCLOWN, a silly (and probably nsfw?) #microfic inspired by @kallidorarho.bsky.social's deliciously twisted mechsploitation stories.
Ringleader’s heels clacked in an unimpeachable rhythm as She approached the door to the backstage – a nickname for the hangar that She had pioneered, and one that had inevitably become de facto among the Imperial troops. As usual, the mission had gone spectacularly. She had to intervene when one of Her performers was recognized by an enemy pilot, causing her to become confused, but that’s exactly why She always had a direct line of communication. Even the greatest of shows can be ruined by a single heckler, the words of Her mentor echoed in her head. “R-Ringleader”, the guard standing in front of the door jolted up to a textbook salute. She gave them a nod, but said nothing otherwise. For a brief moment they looked with concern at the object that Ringleader was concealing behind Her back, but they stepped aside to allow the sharply dressed woman through. Ringleader couldn’t help but let the edge of Her mouth curve into a smirk as She passed, nearly imperceptible though it was. People had been showing Her a notably higher level of respect as of recent. The efficacy of Her methods had ensured the success of countless missions at this point, and the Empire understood no language better than that of results. And of course, any mission Her Clown was part of was a show that nobody could forget. Clown had already disembarked from her machine, Arlecchino, when Ringleader entered. Pilots of nearby machines were slowly making their way over, some already forming a small crowd around Clown. They were waiting for the encore. Clown herself was kneeling in a stupor, as was usual when she ran out of rehearsed material. The approaching sound of Ringleader’s heels, though, caused her eyes to immediately focus as she excitedly turned to greet her mistress. “Ringleader!”, Clown’s enthusiasm, paired with her colourful outfit and makeup, had often caused laughter among the Imperial soldiers, but few dared to do that anymore. Not when many of them had personally witnessed her melt entire swaths of infantry with acid, or contort enemy machines into inhuman shapes with the pilots still inside. “Did I put on a good show?” “Best show I’ve seen in ages”, Ringleader cooed kindly, “You almost lost your way, thanks to a heckler, so it’s a good thing I was there to help you, right?” “Yes!”, Clown didn’t process the whole explanation, but she was nevertheless satisfied. Anything Ringleader said became her truth, and so it was best to keep things simple. The metaphor of performance was supremely effective at abstracting and obscuring Clown’s deeds from her own conscience. “Do I... do I get my...”, the girl shrunk into herself, only capable of expressing emotion in the most stereotypical, exaggerated fashion. “Of course, Silly”, Clown’s eyes sparkled at the use of her stage name: Silly Face, “Step right up to receive your reward!”, Ringleader couldn’t help but add some extra flair to the exchange, given the audience. The performer dressed in red, white, and black rose up and skipped hastily towards her mistress. Ringleader, rapidly but gracefully, brought the object She had been concealing in front of Her chest, facing out. A cream pie. As if on queue, one of Clown’s feet buckled, and her graceful skipping morphed into a cartoonish stumble that sent her barrelling at Ringleader. The onlooking pilots’ expressions were filled with shock, but Clown’s was one of deranged ecstasy as she fell towards her mistress. Splat.

Controversy & punishment are two forms of modern entertainment, & trans women are put in the position of "societal enemy" from birth, so believe me when I say its nothing of urgent importance, nor is there a way anyone could parasocially involve themself in it that would DO anything of importance.
