Sidenote; this is a similar reason why those Wicked movies, despite the source material having the potential to make a visually compelling film, look Like That.

-hiring cinematographers or directors capable of doing that, & established enough to be trusted with that risk. The Barbie movie did this by hiring Greta Gerwig & it paid off. Problem is, The Disney Corp is not gonna do that. They couldnt even get a guy who SOUNDS LIKE KERMIT to voice kermit.

The thing about all muppet shows & movies are they tap into the visual culture of film/tv of either of the era (the original muppets show, the great muppet caper, muppets tonight, muppets from space) or of the broader culture of entertainment (muppet xmas carol, muppet treasure island) so i think-
