One of the reasons I push back as hard as I do on "cities are scary" nonsense is that I do not accept the view that we should treat unfounded fears as legitimate, and we have too long indulged the unfounded, racist fears of conservatives. And that in turn is leading to a moment...

Finally now our priority should be, better bloody late than never:

We need INDEPENDENCE from the USA.

That means security independence, economic independence, digital independence.

It isn’t easy but we have no choice.
That should be our number 1 goal.

I’m not sure how much weight to give to this theory, given he was convicted on State charges, in New York state

And they were all of them deceived, for Tiny Tim did *not* die
And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, eventually became a Queen! Not dark but beautiful and terrible as the Dawn! Treacherous as the Seas! Stronger than the foundations of the Earth!
And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, eventually found himself on a planet called Third Earth, where he had a long-running quarrel with a group of anthropomorphic cats

Former BBC employee Jack Murley has posted on Instagram about the repeated homophobic abuse he received while working for the corporation - often from BBC staff. He says the BBC has now formally apologised.

A lot of ground covered in a short post
NB: When I, a professor of law, profess that an act is unlawful, I am not doing it to inform the lawbreaker, but rather to inform you, the reader.

So the question “what, like you think he cares?” is inapposite. The question is whether *you* care. I think you should, which is why I bother.

That feeling in the middle of a discussion about care for your cat when your vet says “hang on… are a medical professional?” and you explain no that the cat is just the love of your life and so you learned about feline grimace scale, adverse events, ckd etc etc. #CatsOfBluesky

On the other hand it makes me very happy. Not as happy as when the Atlantic loses a subscriber, but still very happy
“Those of us on the left should be fighting to improve protections for workers of all races, and thereby for the betterment of people’s material conditions regardless of their views,” Arash Azizi argues:
Why the Cinnabon Story Doesn’t Make Me Happy
The left should be promoting working-class solidarity, not delighting in seeing workers summarily dismissed.

Friend of mine is exploring gender presentation and is looking for LGBTQ+-friendly shops in Manchester which might stock femme clothes in a range of larger sizes. Does anyone have any recommendations please?

A reminder for those who are not aware: "remigration" is the process of deporting all non-white people from a country. It includes citizens and is, by definition, ethnic cleansing.

And to be clear: this is not fake. I just screenshot it myself.

Switched from the @bsky.app client to skeets after I noted that a polite reply, from a person I follow and who follows me, to a post of mine was hidden. I don’t need idiots deciding what I see, and it is beyond clear that the challenging of moderating is far, far beyond the capabilities of this team

Wonderful reminder of when Labour was a party that accomplished things, with at least a few MPs with political courage
This week is Road Safety Week & a chance to talk about Barbara Castle!

Barbara was Transport Minister for three years yet she was able to introduce the Breathalyzer, a proper integrated transport strategy & more!

This was done despite fierce opposition.

Wow, the dam has really broken on allegations about Farage’s racism when he was at school. There was nothing like this intensity during Brexit - I think it says a lot about how much more dangerous he is now perceived to be. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Also, in amazing news, got a home for the beautiful Lexie, a stray I’ve been trying to get a shelter spot for since May. She is 12, very underweight, and so affectionate it breaks my heart that I can’t take her. She will be safe, warm, loved and in a home from Friday #CatsOfBluesky

Having finally worked out how to get @proton.me calendar notifications on my watch, I am delighted to be exporting my last paid gmail account data and shutting off that clownass service. It was already mid, but the layoffs have *really* started to bite lately

Violet came to live with us in Berlin 5 years ago. I had to change my office chair as she loved to sleep at my feet as I worked & I didn’t want to hurt her with castors. She eventually got out of the habit, but recently started again. No idea why, but gives me the feels #caturday #catsofbluesky
