We are watching one of the wildest things a nation-state has ever done: A superpower is committing suicide because the GOP Congress is too cowardly to stand up to the Mad King.

This is one of the wildest moments in all of geopolitics ever.
Footage shows Danish troops arriving in Greenland as part of a new military deployment. Among the personnel who landed on the island is Major General Peter H. Boysen, Chief of the Danish Army Command. #Greenland

Just say it - step up and have some command on this issue, Ds. Can we fire whatever new consultants they’ve apparently hired?
I think it would be a good idea for D politicians to be declaring this publicly, pre-emptively. They should state it as an abstract, legal proposition: an order by the President to seize Greenland would be unlawful, here's why. Trump does not have the legal right to attack a NATO ally. Say it.
If the U.S. military is given direct orders to seize Greenland—pull down another nation’s flag, and then claim the ground in the name of the United States—every senior commander has a moral obligation to refuse to accept or support such a command.

Read the whole thread - the Constitution is meant to be an instrument of practical progress along with a guardrail for abuse of authority, and if you don’t take @joestieb.bsky.social’s word for it, takes James Madison’s

Terrific piece by @jamellebouie.net that articulates the central problem with the Trump presidency.

He demanded unprecedented power and has, thanks to his lickspittles in Congress & SCOTUS, been granted it. But he has little interest in using it beyond his grasping selfishness. The nation's adrift.
