Yet more evidence if any were needed that powerful MAGA Catholics, most conspicuously the Supreme Court cabal & Project 2025 ideologues, but also the reactionary Catho ecosystem generally, don’t give fuckall what the Pope says. MAGA First! And complacent Catholics are enablers. Not my parish fam.

DHS keeps touting a program that offers free plane tickets and “exit bonuses” to immigrants who self-deport.

But last fall, we spoke to a dozen immigrants who said they followed Trump's instructions, yet never received the promised assistance.

If you can, take a few minutes to watch us run through the parade of lies from DHS.
“The official story—promulgated by Kristi Noem, and Stephen Miller and JD Vance—was a lie. They are lying to you. They're lying to us. They know it. And in fact, they seem proud of it,” says Chris Hayes on JD Vance saying he won’t apologize for labeling Alex Pretti an “assassin.”

🚨Jeff Bezos' wedding last summer cost about $50M. That, alone, could have saved all 300 positions cut today at The Washington Post for a year. Actually, he could have ensured there were no staff cuts for the next decade and he'd still have net worth of 249B.

Thank you Lizzie Johnson.

This is a real loss. I sent my students to look at the Factbook all the time. reporting indicating this is a result of budget/staffing cuts and a directive to cut anything that doesn’t align w CIA’s “core mission” … yet they somehow managed to do this for 60+ yrs w/o neglecting their mission.
The CIA just stopped publishing their World Factbook and took every page, including the archived copies of previous versions!

This sucks. It was public domain, so I recovered the 2020 edition (the last one published as a zip file) and shared it to GitHub simonwillison.net/2026/Feb/5/t...

This should also include a GAO audit of DHS, particularly ICE, CBP, the office of the secretary, and the funds provided in the OBBA. How has/is the money being spent, how effective is it, where are there patterns of waste, fraud, & abuse.
