I think one should be pro sex worker because it's the right thing to do without any personal stakes, but I think I'm (relatively) vocal about it is cuz it's the first context where I ever saw trans people that weren't a gross-out gag in a comedy. Like whoa these women are... beautiful???? Okay???

I don't think you ever saw Rod & Todd at Springfield Elementary huh? It would make sense that they'd go to some krazy kristian school (or even are homeschooled, dunno if they were ever specific on that) but I never really realized they were kept pretty separate from the other kid storylines.

I get why authors are compelled to do it, but few things make me want to read a book/story less than those tropelist pointing to the book marketing banners. I really wish they'd go away, but I guess they Do work as a marketing tactic on more people than they're off-putting to.

Like, hey here’s this lil guy I made in my head - why should anyone care when the world is already full of characters like Batman, Mario, etc?

Just to pick up on this:
One reason my mates and i loved playing Star Wars as kids was BECAUSE it threw out all these references to events that weren't explained.
We were used to adults around us doing that IRL about WW2 or whatever. So it didn't feel weird. It made the universe feel REAL.

A good story is as long as it needs to be. We don’t need to expand every detail, uncover every facet, some things can be left as mystery. A battle can be a sentence, a romance can be a look, a tragedy a word.
Brevity is as useful a technique as verbosity.
