My wife and I were PlutoTV last night and we discovered that Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was playing on one of the movie channels and we just thought ‘why not?’ and had a great time.

I miss turning on the TV and just discovering an awesome film is playing.

Patton Oswalt had either a thread or essay touching on this? About how when we used to have to find new/interesting stuff we valued it a bit more because we had to work for it and we got the excitement of discovery and that also made us find and bond with “our people” as they’d had to do the same.

I’m agreeing, but I’m also advocating we go full Captain Harlock and retrofit an old fashioned galleon into a starship.

It’s like I can’t think of an incarnation of Batman on TV, movies or the mainstream comics where Bruce Wayne’s philanthropy was not a prominent recurring factor.

The same level of people who go on about ‘but what if Bruce Wayne invested his billions into improving Gotham instead of just being Batman and beating up poor people.’

We only value writers if they’re making other people boat tons of money. Otherwise it’s a wry sneer and ‘okay, but what’s your REAL job?’

2. It's rare for any creative, including writers, to be able to live solely off their creative income. Moreover, there is no correlation between the creative value of art and the income status of its creator. It's okay to have another gig to eat and pay bills and survive our capitalist hellscape.
