And so ends 2024. As we head into 2025, here is a look at how I start the new year with my main manga wall and collection. Currently hit more than 3000+ total volumes of manga and comics/graphic novels. Here's to more reading in 2025 🥂
Lady Snowblood by @darkhorse.com is my white whale. One day I will find it and add it to my collection.

There are obviously worse issues to have in life, but it does really, really suck having two incredibly formative series from my youth both be made by people who turned out to have demons we couldn't have imagined until they were unavoidable to see, ya know?

The internet has trained me to accept that the basic task of simply "reading an article" is no longer a pleasant, straightforward or effective experience. Of course the page refreshes and reloads and/or navigates me to some sponsor site halfway through, why wouldn't it?
Today is one of those days where I’m struck anew by how *bad* the internet has gotten. It’s almost unusable. Clouds, apps, advertising — nothing is where it should be and it’s nigh impossible sometimes to do basic tasks online.

I once used to go to a comic book shop. Seemed like a nice place, the owner was cheery and would talk to everyone that came in. Until one day he thought it was totally fine to rant that brown immigrants are ruining the country and dropping N bombs. Cultivated my space by never returning there again.
This thread is correct and you need to cultivate the space carefully.

I stopped going to a gaming store after I happened to visit on a Sunday when the owner wasn't around but the regulars were, so they felt safe loudly discussing The Gender Issue with part-time staff.

So I simply did not return.
I spent an excessive number of years moderating a gaming forum and I learned a great deal about community spaces and cultivation, whether I wanted to or not. I have critical advice for anyone who runs a game store or gaming convention. Please share this thread with people who run those things.

Manga Lover by Yuuko Yoshida has been a great read so far through volume 1. Think Blue Period meets Bakuman. I'm loving the art, story direction, and genuine freshness of the series. I highly recommend it.

Creative content that comes out of Japan has had a more positive impact on my life than that from other countries. But it could just be because that's the content that I am more exposed to in day to day life. Which makes me wonder why I'm not influenced by other art from around the world?

Man it is perfectly okay to continue to watch tv and read comics and live your life, you’re a human being. But “consuming media” in a business-as-usual way doesn’t need to be put on pedestal as a radical act of resistance anymore than continuing to eat and drink water are.
