Come for my hot takes on education and politics. 🧐😂

Stay for all the deer pics and mountain scenery.
Who could have known that simply paying a fee to verify you were who you said you were would open the door for a bunch of bogus accounts?

There is no congruent way to look at generative AI and think “this is the future.” The most well known fact about it is that it messes up all the time, the next being that it loses lots of money.

The fact that asymptomatic Covid cases can lead to Long Covid IMO probably leads to more people attributing illness to vaccine complications than what could actually occurring, when the underlying problem could be a Covid infection.

New from me: I talked to CDC staffers about the new vaccines and autism page. They said things like:

“The best way I can put it is it feels like we’re on a hijacked airplane.”

“I think people are starting to see that we can’t fulfill our mission here.”

Sometimes, when someone uses a term that *I* know, but I know others around/listening might not, I ask for clarification for myself & everyone.

If I genuinely don’t know, I ask in the exact same way.

Modeling vulnerability & saying “I don’t know this” <— we need more people willing to do this.
completely outside of politics, this is so charming

It's not a sophisticated reaction, but my response to both "quiet, piggy" and the Coast Guard okaying swastikas and nooses is a deep sadness that the compassion we're working so hard to foster in our children will not just be challenged by schoolyard bullies but by the highest levels of society.

I will argue that Elon is insouciantly doing a good thing here. He is proving incontrovertibly that "AIs" can and will lie for the people who created them. He is exposing the human agency behind "AI," whose success depends on that human agency being hidden.
the thread just keeps getting better from here

this is easily the funniest way Elon has ever broken Grok, you can get it to choose him over anyone for anything in a hypothetical scenario

*anything*
oh my god i take it back, grok is amazing

Disability education should not be put into HHS because it's not a health issue, it's an education issue. The idea that disability = health is dehumanizing and, frankly, simply wrong.

Jesus Christ. This is monstrous. Absolutely sickening. The journalists in that room should walk out en masse.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

Every AI/bot ad is just a scream for help.

The people developing these tools need to get some real, human friends.

(I don’t think most gamers are the lonely stereotype these folks think they are in ads like this, btw.)

Remember the recent middle-of-the-night apartment building raid where children were dragged outside naked & zip-tied in the street while black & Latino residents were _sorted by race_ and piled into separate vans while their apartments were ransacked & robbed? That raid? So it resulted in 0 arrests.

Before ACA, I regularly had patients who bought insurance they thought was "best for them". I've seen $50k annual max, $500k lifetime max, plans w/ no Rx coverage, plans *carving out* cancer treatment, plans that denied leukemia treatment because prior iron deficiency anemia was a pre-existing. /1

I gave a piano recital today for mule deer.

Technically, they were just sitting near an open window where I happened to be playing the piano… BUT, they stuck around until I was done.

Still counts.
