Having the World Cup in the US is a weird paradox.

Those in power have an extreme anti-foreigner stance and have deliberately made border entry ridiculously inhospitable.

However, the US is hosting a major global event for a sport that is relatively unpopular domestically.

If you had asked me 5 years ago I wouldn't have believed the Epstein files were a thing. Reactionaries going after a Jewish man whom claimed there was a grand pedo conspiracy is too on the nose for RW conspiranoia, as well as Trump initially promising to release the files.

They killed journalists and had an arguable cross-media conspiracy to bury the Panama papers, which exposed the corruption of the elites and the injustices of the systems.

They are willing to burn down the modern internet, torch democracy, and start several wars and genocides to bury this.
it's wild how bad it must be if releasing these heavily redacted documents is actually a better move than revealing what's contained inside them

Part of me believes that reactionaries are going to go to such ridiculous lengths to suppress the Epstein files that they may trigger a second holocaust to suppress dissent and soothe the white right by showing brutal "masculine" proof of action and securing of power.

Not sure people realize how many world leaders, royals, oligarchs, billionaires, technocrats, and celebs must be in there
Surprising? No. Indicative of completely rotted systems that exist simply to oppress? Yes.

Sometimes I wonder what lessons COVID taught to the young conservatives we now see arguing for following in Hitler's footsteps and unleashing waves of terror and death upon America.

They saw that millions could die and society would just forget &stumble forward - so why not again, at their behest?

You needed to have been listening to disabled people for a while before they started ramping up assisted death legislation! You need to know the state coerces people to die instead of providing them lives with dignity. Real suicidal people either struggle against disorder or were pushed there.

Wanting to die is a sign something's wrong. Wanting to die is not normal. When I feel I don't want to live, I know that's the bipolar disorder I'm combatting. If you want to die, something is either not right in your brain, or you are suffering extreme circumstances & see no way out.

Celebrity drama as discourse can be useful to help us unpack together what are really cultural problems playing out in particularly visible people’s interpersonal relations. It’s the worship of them when we forget they’re just like us & contribute to enriching them that’s the issue.

I'm not hell bent against AI a priori. However, given its environmental damage and the extremely skeevy and fucked up intent and direction capitalism is taking it; questions about the "correct" uses of AI can't even begin to be fielded until those problems are resolved.

America is definitely too racist to elect a Black woman pitted against a guy whose whole arsenal is bigotry when she isn't listening to calls to stop genocide.
My undisputed theory is that America is still too racist and still thinks that it’s a ’mans world’. Instead of Clinton, a white female, they chose a white bully. Instead of Harris, a black female, they chose yet again a white criminal bully. America suffers from adoring the rich, wanting to be them.

LRS: This really applies to "big name" folks in all major social groups.

They seem inaccessible because of their charisma, following, and possibly due to being friend-saturated; but they are still just regular people at the end of the day.

Treat them as such (in a good way).

These are people who un-ironically call Hitler "the forbidden philosopher," see themselves as defenders of so-called western civilization, and believe that the path forward is exterminating the unwanted to protect the racial and cultural legacy of said civilization.
These are the faces of young conservatism in America.

Privileged scions who have supped from a poisoned chalice their entire lives, and now, bellies full, are eager to regurgitate that poison into our lives and onto our society, until it mirrors their own rotten imaginings.
on the one hand this does seem like the inevitable outcome of giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to a self-selecting group of the most anti-social and self-regarding entitled assholes in an already entitled and assholic population

on the other hand it’s still pretty shocking

They love Hitler, they hate anyone who does not resemble themselves, and they dream of mass death on a scale that stuns the conscience.

If we are to have any kind of country left at all, they and their dreams must be rejected and destroyed in the most forceful means available.

Confirmed: House Democratic leaders have decided to use a stock trading ban bill as a campaign issue rather than actually pass something that had the GOP support to advance.
Jeffries' team is actively discouraging participation in the bipartisan bill and warning outside groups too.

A bipartisan solution was gaining momentum, but the House Democratic leader just issued his own bill that will prevent consensus.

The Transphobic Mask Is Off - The American Prospect
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene drew up a bill making it a federal felony to provide pediatric transition care of any kind. The ultimate goal is a ban on all trans health care and the end of civil rights for trans people.
