The Commons isn’t usually the place for sharp comedy, but today’s Budget delivered a moment that made even the frontbench blink.

Let’s just say Russia came up… and Farage was the punchline. 🔥

Best budget day for UK gilts since 2006 >>
Deutsche Bank analysts have spotted an interesting fact:
At first glance, the gilt market likes what it heard from the Chancellor today.

'..today marks the largest fall in 10y gilt yields on the day of a UK budget or major fiscal statement since 2006.'

Incredibly proud to get a shout out from our Chancellor of the Exchequer at her Budget today, based on the work I've been doing regarding people whose pensions became insolvent through no fault of their own. These people will no longer lose out as a result of inflation.

Immensely proud that the Chancellor scrapped the two-child-benefit cap in the Budget today, which will benefit the 2050 children in the Banbury constituency who have been impacted by this policy.

Distributional analysis published alongside the Budget shows that the poorest will benefit most from the measures - particularly due to welfare and public service improvements.

James, I can't help but think that journalists banging on about the budget for 3 months must have sounded like nails down a chalk board in 10 and 11 Downing Street, day after day.

The hysterical behaviour of journalists especially ones i have respected in the past has been rather saddening.

So glad that our Parliament will become the first national parliament in the world to become White Ribbon accredited.

We couldn’t do it without the amazing example that Milton Keynes has set to the nation as the first White Ribbon City in the country. Very proud 🤍

The two-child cap pushed half of children in larger families into poverty. Today, Labour abolishes it.

I stood for office to stop drawing charts and start changing them. This change will see the biggest drop in child poverty of any parliament on record.

Know what that is? Hope.

Market reaction so far is calmly positive. GBP up a small but significant amount vs USD, EUR, and basket. 10-year gilt yields down 6pts on this morning, 30-year gilts down 9pts. Traders seem to like increased headroom and midde-of-the-roadness of it all.

I think that's what an alleged racist said recently…?
