The last thing anyone needs is a new "platform" for microblogging. The whole point is we should be moving beyond silo'd platforms into an open social world. So my response to the launch of "W" as a competing platform to "X" is simply: "but Y, tho?"

I'm personally not a super strong reader. Not sure if that's even possible.

Curiosity got the best of me: I built an aggregator for @standard.site 😅 Very much a first iteration and could use a lot more features, but a fun challenge all the same. Will probably do another blog post about the process and architecture when I have time!

X Is a Power Problem, Not a Platform Problem

The implicit theory behind the open social web was that platform quality would determine outcomes. Build something that’s better, and in combination with the incumbent getting worse, this would lead to such difference in quality, user experience and safety that at some point people would switch from X to alternatives like Mastodon or Bluesky. This theory held up for a while in 2023 and 2024. In 2025 it started to falter, as Musk aligned himself with Trump, the signup waves to the alternative platforms effectively stopped. In early 2026, this theory is now really over, because X has fundamentally changed. Mastodon and Bluesky are not in competition anymore with the platform X, because X has changed. It changed from being a platform to the power structure for the neo-royalty, with the public square shambling along as a zombie, animated by everyone who still treats X like it’s 2015. You cannot out-compete ‘where the ruling faction radicalizes and coordinates’ by having better moderation policies or algorithmic choice. X is not a platform problem anymore, it is a power problem, and building a different platform does not solve the power problem.

this X post is worded like an indictment of Bluesky, but it’s actually a perfect example of why Bluesky is *better* than X — users can’t create their own shit on X when they don’t like what X is doing

My Greenlandic 🇬🇱 Artist of the day is actually an institution! It’s called the Grafisk Værksted and it was an artistic workshop opened in a former bathhouse Nuuk in 1972 by two artists. It became the official art school for Greenland in 1980 and so many heavy hitters in Greenlandic art went there.
This is an altar painting by Bodil Marie Kaalund … one of the founders of the Artists Workshop. She was also a textile artist. The painting shows what I think is Jesus in flames with the 12 apostles surrounding him. The tones are orange is browns and darker browns it is quite large, probably 6‘ x 12‘ and it is placed in an altar of a church with a white altar in front and a communion rail in front of that in the foreground
