If it walks like a Canuck and talks like a Canuck, it must be a Canuck.

I have one simple rule for social media: if you just want to insult me, I block you.
This exactly. I don't know why this is so difficult for some to comprehend.
It's very simple. If two candidates are competing against each other and both are imperfect, but one is manifestly less imperfect than the other, you vote for the one who's less imperfect.
Okay Mr. Adult in the Room, explain to me how browbeating trans people for not voting for a transphobe is the mature thing to do, actually

The cruelty is a feature, not a bug. They're brown-shirt, goosestepping nazis.
On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

AI slop. And you put the nazi-tattoo guy front and center?
A base that has long made pragmatic, sober decisions appears increasingly attracted to charismatic outsiders who promise to break from the party’s failures of the last decade. They see their party’s leaders as feckless and inept.

It’s the Democratic Tea Party, with a twist. trib.al/mC5cBDA

In 2024, US voters had a choice between a moderate candidate who would have made their lives objectively better, and a dementia-ridden fascist-wannabe carvival barker. Yes, voters failed. Just because voters make idiotic decisions doesn't necessarily mean the losing candidate was bad.
The inversion of electorial responsibilities by American libeerals is extremely bizarre to me. It's a mentality that Democrats cannot fail voters, the voters fail Democrats. If "your guy" didn't win it has nothing to do with the guy and everything to do with a disobedient electorate.

If you want your kids to grow up to be functional adults in society, do not follow this advice.
Looking for an edge in college admissions? Just pull your kid from school. Homeschooling, long associated with hippies and religious conservatives in the U.S., is in the middle of a rebrand and a boom.

Trump supporters: He's not racist!

Trump:
Last night, Trump posted a video to his social media platform that contained a racist clip showing Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys. It's still up:

So weird that a country which supposedly believes in the separation of church and state even has a prayer breakfast, but why even show up when dumbass don is there?
Trump at the National Prayer Breakfast: "I don't know how a person of faith can vote for a Democrat. I really don't. *crowd groans* I know we have some here today. I don't know why they're here, because they certainly don't give us their vote ... they cheat."

Bad take. Yes, blame the ones who allowed fascism to gain a foothold because of apathy.
Never blame the people who did not vote, NEVER, we will need them as allies next time.

Blame the people who didn't give them something to vote for rather than against.

Everything here, plus Rowling's world has slavery.
Like most hyper popular fantasy series, the world of Rowling's wizards is deeply illiberal: it still revolves around dynastic politics and hierarchies, all the more galling in the pseudo-modern setting
“Young people aren’t reading a book series from 29 years ago whose author is now famously bankrolling a global hate campaign. It seems like this is something that would be very difficult to blame on liberals, but that’s why I get the big bucks from the NYT.”

You don't just get absolution. One must repent for their sins and make amends.
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?

Said it before and I'll say it again: bothsides is the laziest, dumbest argument. There's no battle over the truth. DHS lied. What happened is all on video.

This is a really dumb, tone-deaf take. Always with the arm-chair quarterbacking. Two people were brutally executed, and apparently demanding ICE leave isn't good enough? Puh-lease.
I find this language really gross. First off, it's weak as hell. But second, if your demand is simply that ICE leaves Minnesota, that's just telling them to go to another state to terrorize people.

These centrist squishes need to push for full abolition of ICE.
Our message is clear: ICE needs to get out of Minnesota.

Actually, it was founded on protest and rebellion against law enforcement, so literally the exact opposite. But I'm just a Canadian, so what do I know?
Attorney General Pam Bondi: "Our country was founded on law enforcement"
Bondi: "It's extremely organized. The signs they have are all matching, they're well written. And look at what's happening today. How did these people go out & get gas masks? These protesters. Would you know how to walk out on the street and buy a gas mask? Think about that. We're not gonna have it"

Nutlick is an idiot.
US trade secretary Howard Lutnick really not mincing his words here at Davos: "We are here to make a v clear point: globalisation has failed the West and the USA. It's a failed policy. It's what the WEF has stood for, which is, export, offshore, find the cheapest labour in the world."

If there's one empirical insight I'd want everyone to understand about American politics, it's this:

America's problems are solved problems. Just not here.

What would change if the US simply matched the average of 31 peer democracies? Not Denmark or Norway. Just the middle of the pack. 🧵
