Out here where I live, in central NA, there are hundreds of thousands of people from/descended from Sudan, Somalia, Bosnia, Serbia, etc.
Generations have lived out here.

Just noticed a couple of history-related entities asking for items for items from “public” and non-tenure track historians.

This is a good summation of the historian’s mind.
I spend so much of my waking hours in another century that, yeah, sometimes I’m not really here in this one.

I don't know. It's just the world that is most vibrant to me. I often forget very basic stuff in the here and now (ask anyone who has waited for me to answer a simple question in an email!) but somehow the material I've studied remains quite alive in my head. I don't "remember" it. It's just there.

And grossly, obscenely underrated and misunderstood by the public.
Thinking a lot lately about the simple fact that college allows people to spend about 15 weeks immersed in a disciplinary conversation with an expert in that field. And what a special thing that is.

Just saw this today. This is a transparent attempt to KILL DUE PROCESS by lying about the job of immigration judge and stacking the deck through hiring only bloodthirsty lawyers who want to deport people.
This comes after they pushed out over 100 judges deemed too likely to grant relief.
