Worn #onthisday in 1977 by Nigerian head of state Lt. Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo, with President Jimmy Carter in the Oval Office before sitting down for a candlelit dinner at the White House. Per UPI, Obasanjo wore "a brown Nigerian outfit embroidered with silver thread and an elaborate headdress." #OTD

As if an encrusted silver dress was not already a lot, it has a scarlet satin coat with a matching silver lining. There is an occasion here of which I can only imagine. Late #1950s Arnold Scaasi @mfaboston.bsky.social #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

That is the only true thing I’ve heard him say.

He IS in heaven! The most powerful person on planet, owns a country and its military and courts and Congress. Heaven!

Where CAN he go from here?

And…answer is: if he’s NOT President, he’s toast.
So yeah, this is his heaven on earth.

Trump: "I don't think there's anything that's gonna get me in heaven. I think I'm not maybe heaven bound. I may be in heaven right now as we fly on Air Force One. I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to make heaven."

What worries me even more than the dictatorship and the deliberate, open targeting of Trump’s enemies are the administration’s efforts to prevent Democrats from winning elections. When grievance runs high with no legitimate outlet, that’s a formula for violence. Political violence hurts us all.

Shoot me an address. I’ll send you a copy.

Thanks. This has been quite a haul. And now I can get back to the Schell book.

I’m looking forward to not thinking about it. AND to getting back to the Schell book.

I don’t think I’ve seen that! I forgot how many movies she was in. I haven’t seen most of them.

It’s missing the subtitle (A History of Meat in America)
Because I forgot to include it in the specs.

Otherwise, ta dah!

I’ve said it before but reading all the medieval history books I’ve been reading lately has been so comforting. Makes you realize that there have always been mad and incompetent kings and they almost always die in ignominy and everyone piles shit on them for centuries after they’re gone.
