Quick note to anyone thinking of buying my books: please purchase the new Swift Press versions, NOT the relatively small number of Unbound versions still knocking about, & being sold by OOINYA. Unbound stopped paying me for my work early in 2024 and I will never see a penny for these books.

I have a hard time imagining this book as a film. I’ll watch it but ….. oh, that book! Can it be translated to film?
“Hamnet” is a somber—and at times punishing—adaptation that draws on speculative work that imagines the grief William Shakespeare and his wife felt after losing their son, David Sims writes—and when the film is at its best, it “embraces the unknowability of this premise.”
‘Hamnet’ Is Miserable, and Proud of It
Chloé Zhao’s film depicts the inspiration for “Hamlet” as a relentlessly woeful tale.

The DC shooting story is really getting to me because we literally trained this man as a child soldier for a death squad in a forever war and Stephen Miller et al want to blame it on other cultures? It's our culture, American culture, that killed that woman.

A must read. Long, but worth it.
This piece took me over 2 months to write.
It’s about a man given illegal orders that is impossible not to obey.

A worthy long read, initially published last July and deeply relevant at the moment
Also for thanksgiving:

Certain government actors again perpetuate the myth of the thin blue line — aka that American society is always near collapse into chaos and brutality keeps order —

so please revisit my take on what the line between order & chaos really is

A reminder that the current SECDEF caught the eye of the president by championing the pardoning of American war criminals — men whose own units testified against them, and who were convicted by military juries

He should never have been nominated for, let alone confirmed in, this job

Continually amazed that someone who's been in public life as long as Trump has lacks the capacity to say anything appropriate when someone has died.
Q: Do you plan to attend Sarah's funeral?

TRUMP: I haven't thought about it yet, but it's certainly something I can conceive of. I love West Virginia. You know, I won West Virginia by one of the biggest margins of any president anywhere.

Trumplicans was the name I came up with in 2016.* Pleased to see it in action.

*presumably others also chose that term.
Trump posts an image of him holding a sign that reads, “Trump 2028, yes!”

Slam.
Reminder that all the "pardons" granted to Jan6ers whose convictions were still pending were auto-pen pardons.
Trump claims “any document” signed by Joe Biden is “hereby terminated.”

He calls out executive orders later but obviously “any document” would be much broader and include legislation.

(He can’t legally do that but, as always, we get to watch how far he can push this without repercussions)

Interesting thread
🧵I often get mobbed when I say this, but it was a mistake for liberals & leftists to cede "western civilization" to the fascists. "The West" and "Western" are important political identities. Abandoning them is no smarter than refusing to offer a positive vision of American national identity.
