If there is one consistent but underappreciated theme in Santa lore it is that cops are on the naughty list.

This is clear in Elf, where Santa explicitly tells Buddy that the Central Park Rangers on the list but think about the many stories in which cops oppose Santa Claus and his followers.

McSweeney's with another banger, speaking truth to power (the turkey-industrial complex).
"Stuffing is wet bread with pieces of wet celery stuck to it. Everyone says they love it, but they never prepare it on any other day of the year. The majority of the other side dishes are factory-rejected baby food."
How to Give Thanks by Cooking Food No One Knows How to Cook and Eating Food No One Likes to Eat
To remind everyone how grateful we should be for all the readily available, appealing food that is easy to prepare and that everyone enjoys eating,...

I did something to my appearance today and my daughter told me, "I always wanted a cool dad and I finally have one."

A. I'm going to ride this high as long as I can.
B. She is gonna be crushed when she realizes I'm still the same nerd.

Just want to give a shoutout to all the anti-vaxxers, 'vaccine hesitant,' and people 'doing their own research.' You have won and now we all are losing.

First they came for the Pennies
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Penny.

Like many non-American scholars, I won’t be attending AAR/SBL this year. For me, it’s the first time I'll miss it in ~20 years. I’m going to miss great papers, even better receptions, and hanging out with so many awesome people. I’ll just be over here chilling with my family and my FOMO.

It’s too early for the *good* Christmas movies, so my daughter and I (unapologetic Christmaholics) are watching some weaker ones. Christmas Chronicles is cheesy but fun. Christmas Chronicles 2 is just awful. But also, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell in movies since the 80s? Super cute!

One of the things I have learned after rewatching a bunch of 80s and 90s movies is that airport security was disturbingly lax before 9-11.
