WARNING: The violence and cruelty is hard to watch, but impossible for families to endure.
This is a sickening example of Trump and ICE's blatant disregard for humanity as they terrorize our families and communities.
It is shameful, cruel, and it must end.

CPJ documents violence against journalists working domestically. Unfortunately one of those profiles is about me. I respectfully disagree with this article. It’s terrible that journalists feel afraid to do their work in a country that’s supposed to be a democracy, but it’s not the same risks as war.

ICE is continuing to abduct immigrants in Lower Manhattan.
On Wednesday, a family that was separated at the border was separated again by ICE after the father went in for a check-in. His family had to watch as he was loaded by masked and hooded agents into an SUV.

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

Nowhere in Ukraine is currently safe right now. Whatever success Ukrainian air defenses have had against drones (and they do a really good job with that) Russia’s continued use of ballistic missiles proves that. But you experience the war differently based on where you are in Ukraine. 1/

There’s just no plausible way you can describe the U.S. as a free country anymore.
The student paper at the college at which I teach reports a "tsunami of takedown requests" from international students terrified of being targeted for innocuous, legitimate op-eds & opinions.. Many ask in person--leave no trace in writing. Reminds me of my father's account of studying in the USSR.

One thing I wish people understood about authoritarianism is life often looks more or less the same. Troops aren’t marching down the street every day; people go to restaurants, have their office jobs. But everyone knows that stepping out of line, even slightly, can derail your life with no recourse
