Yearly reminder that @montgomeryparks.bsky.social will clear the snow off the Capital Crescent Trail for the rich people in Bethesda and Chevy Chase, but will allow Sligo Creek Trail to be obstructed for days or even weeks like last year. Boo. Where's the equity?

This is one of the most lively public spaces in DC so of course they're going to attempt to kill that.
Heads up: The National Guard will patrol Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park 24/7 "for the foreseeable future," per an email from the superintendent of Rock Creek Park. The request came from U.S. Park Police, which traditionally patrols the park, due to "high levels of incidents."

Car dependency esp in small towns & rural areas often enables abusive family or caretakers, who can control what access their victims have to the outside world. Poor, disabled and young people especially. As a form of private property, the car can be controlled in ways that public transit cannot.

This is ridiculous. Also, keep in mind the policing. And the over-policing of people of color that use e-bikes.

I’m VERY happy that @carterlavin.bsky.social has written “If You Want To Win, You Have To Fight: A Guide To Effective Transportation Advocacy,” because books on how to actually change things are TOO RARE. I admit though that I haven’t had a chance to read it yet — have others? #UrbanismBookClub 7/

There's no LPI. Simultaneous green for drivers & pedestrians. Drivers turning right onto New Hampshire from the Hampshire Tower apartments or left onto New Hampshire from Merwood Drive endanger pedestrians.

It's a hard pill to swallow, but not everyone wants the world to be a better place. Many are religious. Life should be hard, risky. Maybe even a test. Suffering is virtuous. If you die, it was your time. Perhaps you lacked faith.

We can't assume everyone is opposed to others suffering and dying.

Engineering culture can change.💜
Twenty years ago City of Victoria used this rationale to remove marked crosswalks. Now in 2025 engineering culture has changed so much here that staff go and install or redesign crosswalks with no input from council. And bike lanes. So culture can change.

There is no reason to have a slip lane at the intersection of Carroll Avenue & Flower Avenue in Takoma Park.

@takomaparkmd.gov should remove it entirely.

The Dutch have something called the Flexible Working Act, which allows workers to submit a written request to work from home, at least in part. Employers must have a good reason for refusing worker requests.

Why can't the USA have laws like this?
