My parents were over today to celebrate my birthday, and being that it was my 40th, I figured a prime rib would not be out of order. Fortunately the butcher opened in time this weekend for me to get one.

Wrote about the observers. The people standing by and filming and the risk they are taking to let the world see what is happening. It's crucial and its the only way to combat the lies and blatant propaganda. www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

Snowed in, got a fire going, and starting on @alissawilkinson.bsky.social’s WE TELL OURSELVES STORIES and this is kind of a hell of a start for today.

Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

After last night with Air Force One turning around, I think about the interview @ezraklein.bsky.social had with Ben Shapiro a few months back. It was recorded right before, and release a bit after, the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

It was a good interview, and I'd recommend anyone to listen to it.

I made a very conscious decision a few years back (maybe it was longer? Sometime after Ferguson) to avoid any videos like this, especially if they showed the death of a real person. I have stuck to it since then, and stand by it.
🧵 Here’s a point.

Watching videos that are full of violence - shootings, stabbings, etc - will fuck you up. It may not be immediate. But it will.

How do I know this? Let me tell you a story.

One of my close relatives used to work in news. They worked in the industry for over thirty years.

Today became Barnes and Noble rewards cash in day. Every year I save them up then use January being my birthday as pretext to go crazy. Knew what I wanted, but had to go to Georgetown to get all of them in one spot (or some at all).

Ordinarily, it would seem ridiculous that the winner of the Falcons (7-9) and Saints (6-10) game would determine which of the other two teams in the division wins the NFC South. But given that the other two teams are both under .500, I’d say they deserve it.

From the least to the greatest
everyone is greedy for unjust gain;
from prophet to priest,
everyone deals falsely.

They have healed the wound of my people lightly,
saying, ‘Peace, peace,’
when there is no peace.

Were they ashamed when they committed abomination?

Just watched the first episode of PLURIBUS, and it strikes me there’s some affinity with THE THIS early on. Different mechanisms, but definite overlap.
Closing it out, a friend has got me started on the DUNGEON CRAWLER CARL series, which is a fun popcorn snack. I’ll start book 3 in the new year.

Adam Robert’s’ THE THIS was also interesting, and I finished McMurtry’s LONESOME DOVE series. None quite lived up to the first but it was still solid.

Spent the last hour plus moving firewood from the back of our yard to the not back of our yard. I like our trees, but I am kind of wondering when the next is to go so we can replenish. The last tree has lasted us six years, I want to say, and probably has another year and a half to go.
