WE FOUND IT! We trekked day and night through tiger-patrolled Sumatran rainforests accessible only under permit for this: Rafflesia hasseltii. Few people have ever seen this flower, and we watched it open by night. Magic.

The right half of a remarkably-sculpted mesocyclone of a supercell thunderstorm, photographed at night and illuminated by lightning. The clouds have a clear bell shape to them, indicative of where horizontal air is pulled upward into the storm's updraft. Striations in the clouds hint at the rotation within. An aerial view of Shiprock - a volcanic neck quite literally sticking out of the barren landscape like a sore thumb at Sunrise. An exposed dike serves as a leading line, drawing your eyes from the bottom of the image toward Shiprock in the distance. Light from the just-rising sun is caught on the right side of Shiprock and the dike, while the left side of them remains dark. Clear skies are overhead. A look down a long Icelandic canyon, with two prominent waterfalls. The first waterfall is near the camera on the right of the image and cascades hundreds of feet down to the canyon floor. In the far distance, at the end of the canyon, is a second waterfall of similar height. This one has numerous smaller waterfalls above it, with a little mountainous peak above. A look along the columnar jointing on display at Studlagil canyon in Iceland. Large hexagonal pillars bracket both sides of a river fed by a glacier not far upstream. Partly cloud skies are overhead. A massive wedge tornado churns over fields in central Oklahoma. A very well-defined clear slot wraps around the circulation. There is a cow grazing in the foreground, seemingly unaware of the monster behind it. Ah, to be so blissfully unaware...

An aerial image above the summit of Guatemala's Fuego volcano during a particularly powerful eruption. A large eruption column extends above the summit, with gasses swirling around the vent. An incredible number of pyroclastic debris (rocks and chunks of lava) is blasted outward in all directions, peppering the entire frame of the image. The towering, rocky column of Shiprock sticks out of the ground at sunrise, with hazy pastel color skies and clouds above, and a very distant mountain in the background. A photograph looking straight down the center of a road - between brown to yellow fields - that points toward a massive glacier that reaches up into the patchy clouds. The wall of ice has a somewhat wavy appearance, with brown, rocky cliffs on either side. A large, distant tornado chewing up dirt and kicking up dust in far west Texas, with dark swirling clouds overhead and a row of powerlines leading toward the storm.

A family of eight Wrinkled Peach mushrooms grow on a mossy log in a green forest. Taken by me, May 2024 A family of vibrant orange enoki grow off the side of a log, their caps are covered in liquid like over-full glasses of water, their gills are illuminated under a bright winter sky. Taken by me, December 2025 A piece of decayed tree bark covered in tiny white Collared Parachute mushrooms with wavy threadlike stems, the bark is held between thumb and forefinger in front of a vibrant green forest background. Taken by me, June 2024 A tuft of trumpet-shaped golden oyster mushrooms grow upright out of a mossy log, their yellow caps shining translucent through their delicate gills. Taken by me, June 2024
