I know some students who got detention for holding a "Fuck ICE" sign during a non-school-sanctioned protest.

Maybe "Police ICE" would be a better rallying cry, especially since the signs for it are already made.

It bugs me when people say "____ is not an engineering problem" because usually the problem was at some point in its recent history drastically exacerbated by an engineering decision.

If you engineered yourself into a problem, it's at least partially an engineering problem.
Dumb thing engineering founders say:

“Everything is an engineering problem.”

No, everything is 𝘯𝘰𝘵 an engineering problem, and you know almost nothing about any of it.

When you understand that, you can begin to actually become competent at those things.

Beyond a certain threshold net worth becomes for all practical purposes non-archimedean.

Like how if it's 100 °F outside it's time to rest in the shade, but if it's 100000 °F outside it's time to get a new thermometer.

Not wealth, but an existence proof that there's a bug in our system.
again we do not really do a good job of explaining how wealthy people like Jeff Bezos are

his net worth is $253.2 billion.
so he could take one million dollars, and just light it on fire
and then do it again tomorrow
and again the day after that
and then do it every day for 693 years and 8 months

Naming and shaming public servants is the primordial soup whence other checks on power came; its as ancient as calling dibs.

It's also the check/balance of last resort.
It is literally impossible to dox federal workers for the same reason it's not doxxing when McDonalds management asks workers to wear name tags

Every single person in the United States government works for us. We are management and we need to know who our employees are
Tillis says he opposes ICE being barred from wearing masks: "I've seen people dox me. I've seen people take pictures and identify law enforcement officers and then put their families at risk. So, I think that's a step too far."

That database is going to be a high value target. This is the kind of thing you want on a blockchain.
N.J. governor wants residents to record ICE agents, upload videos to new state database
“If you see an ICE agent in the street, get your phone out," New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill said as the state plans to launch an online portal.

Of the Americans who are angry with Congress for funding ICE, I wonder how many have a W-4 filed such that its prepaying their federal income taxes.

Please keep writing linear python code--unless an event driven architecture is appropriate for what you're doing.

It might feel good to avoid "spaghetti code" but ravioli code can be just as problematic if the architecture is a bad fit.
Stop writing linear Python code — event-driven architecture makes your programs scalable, flexible, and future-proof

People think of little red spots when they think of measles. I think we'd be in a better policy position if instead people thought of long term neurological damage.

Trump would probably have an aneurysm if Minnesota indicated that it planned to become part of Canada.

The numbers on the clock mean nothing on their own, let's act like we understand that and dispense with timezones altogether.
Use Real Time! Permanent Standard Time approximates natural solar time, for best sleep and circadian health. Ditch Daylight Saving Time!

If your mutual aid network doesn't include insects, you're thinking too small. This person my anarchist hero.
saying out loud what I am doing for the yard makes me feel nuts. a big branch fell out of the tree, which is cool because my friends the fireflies enjoy living in dead branches. but branches are considered unseemly by cops, so I have to break them up into pieces and hide them under the plants now
