Since the #bsky algorithm is fair, unlike twitter, and creating posts is no longer pointless, I'm the author of #GivingTuesday's #CivicIntent report - a way to measure that sense of "doing good" and "good intentions" that 4 out of 5 Americans feel:

I think this poem reveals more about how narratives and debates are controlled, and how the Internet is not a free space for dialogue in the sense that we were promised in the 90s.

It makes you wonder how much of what you think about are your own thinking.

@gregpalast.bsky.social I read your books on the Florida 2000 election irregularities. Is there any credibility to this report about 2024?

I don't know the people claiming it, but I trust your judgment.

You suspected #ICE recruiting was haphazard, but it's really more chaotic than anything. No background screening.

They grew from 10k to 22k members in 2025.

You’ve Heard About Who ICE Is Recruiting. The Truth Is Far Worse. I’m the Proof.
What happens when you do minimal screening before hiring agents, arming them, and sending them into the streets? We're all finding out.

There's so much amazing information in this figure - Sun, Moon, clouds - these keograms make for some excellent #dataviz
Happy new year! My all sky camera imaged the sky every 15 seconds and this picture shows what happened in the sky in 2025. It shows the length of the night and day with the hourglass shape, the monthly lunar cycle with the diagonal bands, the elevation of the Sun at local noon, and lots of clouds.

A century ago, most people were able to sniff a scam much better, and grifters used to have to work. Now scamming the masses has never been so "scalable!"

So far, the greatest contribution of #AI to society is to tarnish the one-time perfectly respectable em-dash — am I right?

No book is going to turn kids into someone else. But books will regularly show kids other people like them and show those kids they're not alone. And they'll show kids other types of people who also exist. There is a large proportion of the population who are terrified of this.

Looks like ICE is now cracking down on … Native Americans.

This letter was just posted by the chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North/South Dakota:

“Our Nation is a sovereign government and our members are not immigrants. We are not subject to immigration enforcement on our own lands.”

So while we are not "in a recession" the #jobs #market is very weak, and the public's perception of unemployment (via #AmericanCommunitiesProject) is much more negative than even the numbers would imply.

People answered 50/50 True/False on whether unemployment rates are at or near historic lows.

The scale of the protests in Iran are absolutely unbelievable. Hard to quantify, but I've seen some speculation that this uprising is more significant than the 2023 protests (themselves the largest challenge to the regime since it came into power in '79.)

I think our grandchildren's generation will recognize unchecked narcissism is as dangerous to society as psychosis. Especially among leaders and the ultra-powerful.

What other things do we overlook that future generations would be horrified by?

I was reading my 10yo son's book on Moonshot (young readers edition) and I'd never realized NASA's annual budget in the 1960s would be about $180B in 2020 dollars, (3X NSF+NIH budgets combined!)

Which beachy part of Florida has 3X the poverty of the other?

(a) Daytona Beach
(b) Fort Meyers / Naples area

(and isn't it lovely that we have a Federal government that measures inequities like this?)
