I don’t need any programming books (Python, JavaScript, etc.) at the moment, but all my favorites came from No Starch Press, and their current sale is 42% off everything they have. I know we’re boycotting and not buying, etc. But I honestly love this publisher. Ends Dec. 2. nostarch.com

I keep thinking about the immigrants who have been sent away to countries not their own, where maybe they don’t even speak the language. How will those people ever get justice? A hearing of any kind? The U.S. is shipping them off to be imprisoned forever, killed, or enslaved.

There have been many essays written by professors about students cheating with AI. I like the thoughts expressed in this one. www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/set-tr...
I Set A Trap To Catch Students Cheating With AI. The Result Was Deflating
"I am no stranger to students trying to cut corners by copying and pasting from Wikipedia, but the introduction of generative AI has enabled them to cheat in startling new ways."

We have all normalized it at this point because it never stops, but it is fucking psychotic that the mayor elect of New York City who has never said an anti-Semitic thing in his life has to answer "what do you say to Jews who feel unsafe" as a condition of doing any interview.

Whenever “engagement” is rewarded with payments, many people will create schemes to churn out more content that gets more engagement. Studies have shown that hate and anger generate the most shares on social media. What results is obvious and logical — and horrible.
Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

There’s a weird dynamic in the visual of Trump seated behind the desk while Mamdani stands, just to his right. I’m sure there was a Trumpist logic behind it, but it doesn’t make Trump look strong, and Mamdani looks like an adviser or a No. 2. Plus Trump keeps looking _up_ at Mamdani.

I’d love to see this proposal get a lot of discussion. One thing I’ve learned about “just giving money” to people (from reports on UBI in other countries) is that people will spend it— and that benefits the local economy. www.peoplespolicyproject.org/2025/11/20/r...

Who thinks this president would happily stand on a platform wearing a fake military uniform covered with fake medals and survey a mass hanging or firing squad to eliminate a bunch of his “enemies”?

We have read the dictator playbook.

The Coast Guard makes distinctions between “hatred” and “divisiveness” because a lot of folks who love the Confederate flag, the Nazi swastika, and nooses (!) claim their use of those symbols does not mean they hate anyone.

Pause.

They absolutely do hate very specific human beings.

If ANY university EVER sends you a list of “prohibited words,” you damn well better cancel that speaking engagement.
This week, I withdrew from a speaking engagement at a public university because they sent me a list of prohibited “words & concepts.” I will not humor this censorship. It does a disservice to the stories I’m discussing & the audience, who deserve unfettered access to information & conversation.

I just had a shock: I learned that a Big Mac or a Quarter Pounder with cheese at McDonald’s (in my town) costs almost $8. Ever since the pandemic I only eat at/order from local restaurants, and their prices have gone up—but this? McDonald’s has such bad food AND now it’s not cheaper than good food?
