Christmas Vacation is a “dumb guy” comedy. It’s nice to play in the background of a Christmas get-together. But it’s genuinely painful to actually sit and watch.
Possibly controversial Xmas movie take: CHRISTMAS VACATION, aside from a handful of jokes, is mostly trash and not funny. However, SCROOGED — from the same era and also starring a 70s SNL cast member — holds up as consistently funny year in and year out.
