2.5 minute headways?! Damn...
#Montreal 's just leap-frogged other cities in North America by opening the REM.

Automated. Electric. Frequent (2.5 minute headways). Fast (Capable of 110 km/h). Cheap to build. (One tenth the price of other systems)

And really fun to ride...

Imagine showing a petrol engine to someone who had only known electric vehicles, and trying to convince them to switch to petrol. No-one would choose the dirty, noisy, less efficient, more expensive vehicle. This isn't 1910, hostage to gender insecurity. We can just choose the better tech.

Yet, Miles recalled one agent calling it “fake.”

The White Christian Supremacism of this administration is so extreme that it seems like it’s got to resolve with either a massive rejection of such illiberalism, or a violent, authoritarian imposition of it.

Rode Hennepin into downtown this morning. There was some crunchy ice, a few rough spots, some annoying gusts of wind, but active clearing and studded tires made it rideable.

THE MAN IN THE RIVER

Once there was a wise man, who travelled to strange lands, and as he travelled, he came to the bank of a winding river. Edging the bank were houses, set at distances from one another. The wise man walked upstream, watching the slow current carry leaves and twigs past him.

Minnesotans! Very cool.
Great thread that includes useful info for folks in Minnesota in particular.
If you live in Minnesota you have access (no login required) to thousands of journals and ebooks, the full text of the NYT, WaPo, WSJ, Star Tribune (all the way back to the 80s), and much more. All thanks to eLibrary Minnesota. Libraries rule! 2/4 elibrarymn.org

In addition, public works personnel must be given the opportunity (demanded?) to find efficient and effective ways to maintain these types of infrastructure year-round.

We warned you that self-driving cars would just create self-driving traffic jams, and here they are.

The car industry has no solution to the shortage of space in cities. Public transit, cycling, and walking are all part of the answer, but cars are not.

Possibly queued for a Billie Eilish show at Chase Center ~half mile away.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.
