This is basically how the old testament was written.

Yeah, hard to get (re)elected if you publish a report that says 77.3M Americans are just effin idiots.
The Democratic National Committee has decided not to publish its report of what went wrong in the 2024 election. Ken Martin, the DNC chairman, ordered the report months ago but is now said to believe that its release would be counterproductive.

Social media companies attempt to detect and remove this type of astroturfing for violating their inauthentic behavior policies, which is why Doublespeed uses a bank of phones to emulate the behavior of real users.

It's not that "no one was ready" it's that literacy efforts don't get funded, fact-checking is now "censorship", grants got killed, taxing companies to mitigate social impact =nonstarter in the US, politicians focused on the wrong things. Trust & social norm breakdown the are major non-tech issues.

Do we think MAGA/Republicans will speak up *at all* about this new and improved step towards our surveillance state?
"The creation of the Tech Force follows the administration’s hasty closure of several of the government's existing technology teams ... . In March, GSA dismantled 18F, an internal government tech consultancy group, after Elon Musk posted on X that the group had been 'deleted.'” 🤷‍♂️
Trump admin launches US Tech Force to recruit temporary workers after shedding thousands this year
Some of the recruits to government service will be on leaves of absence from private sector companies while working for government — a setup that raises ethical questions about conflicts of interest.

Literally the whole "is antifa in the room with us right now, Mr. FBI?"

(Also, again, if antifascists are the enemy, what does that make YOU?)
GLASHEEN: Antifa is our primary concern right now. That's the most immediate violent threat we're facing

BENNIE THOMPSON: Where is antifa headquartered?

GLASHEEN: ... ... ... we are building out the infrastructure right now

THOMPSON: What does that mean?

The aesthetic of these NYT food graphics is on point. A clean, simple, informative surround that really showcases the food stuff, almost sterile but somehow warm, too.

This is why, every time I hear weak-knee Dems or Dem pundits/consultants talking about how they can appeal to Trump voters, I get irrationally angry. The goal isn’t to embrace racists and fascists. The goal is to provide the alternative that lets voters kick racists and fascists into the wilderness.
It has long been clear that unalloyed racism lies at the core of Trumpism, and he is becoming increasingly explicit about this.

I have been saying and will keep saying that Trump and his people are vulnerable to an opponent who embodies a certain style of masculinity. When Kelly called them in unserious, he basically called into question their manhood.
Kelly: He runs around on stage talking about lethality and the warrior ethos.. That’s not the message that should be coming from the Secretary of Defense… He runs around on a stage like he’s a 12 year old playing army. It’s embarrassing.
