Except the causal chain is nowhere near as strong as for covid. 4% GDP on defence wouldn't enable us to fight America or Russia and would take a while to make any difference at all.
Think it would be easier than people think to get the public to accept real lower consumption if politicians were more forthright about the case for it. People did so for COVID. "Russia is invading eastern Europe and America is run by a mad king, we need an army" doesn't seem that hard a sell.

Demokratische Oppositionsparteien täten gut daran, noch viel offensiver die Verbindungen von #Spahn, #Merz und Co zur Heritage Foundation und deren Netzwerken herauszustellen und zu betonen. Hier ist wesentlich mehr Lautstärke und Klarheit erforderlich, denn dadurch wird die EU gerade ausgebremst.
