Mamdani will implement sumptuary law. Ladies will have to carefully measure how many ounces of gold are in their girdles, and wearing pearls on hats will be banned except for wives or courtesans of foreign mercenaries.

Palestinian folklore is full of places where you can easily stumble into other realms. High Places tm, and ruins that involve caves or other entrances into the ground are common places to encounter the supernatural (or spiritual, if you like).
Are there any portals in Palestinian folklore? What form do they tend to take, if so?

Perhaps the weirdest thing about Palestinian ghouls is that there's a story, which is our version of Rapunzel, which is about a beautiful woman who is the daughter of a ghoul! soniasulaiman.com/2022/11/24/p...
Palestinian Folktale: Nani, Daughter of Nani.

There is also a very rare belief that the Palestinian djinn are abandoned, rejected human beings that were miraculously saved from death by God hiding them in another dimension. It reminds me of beliefs abt the Tuatha de Danaan having once been inhabitants of Ireland.

The way you deal with the djinn in Palestine is very similar to the relationship between the Irish people and the sidhe. One example: if food of any kind touches the ground, you retrieve it by asking permission supposedly from the beings who live in the ground itself.

Yes! I have my own little pet theory about the Palestinian good/little folk. Being Irish as well, it couldn't really escape me that a few of the big players as well as lesser known beings are very like the sidhe. In particular, I think the 'Arus (Bride), and the djinn. bsky.app/profile/timt...
Does Palestinian folklore have "little people", like Dwarves, elves, or fairies?

Can anyone recommend any academic essays (that are publicly available online or that you could send me) exploring the parallels between Loki and Ulysses expanding on Snorri's slightly throwaway lines on the topic. Or failing that, general explorations of Troy-as-Asgard? #MedievalSky #ClassicsSky

When I taught yr7, we did Midsummer Night’s Dream, and I would start the first lesson with a rousing chant of “ass bosoms” just so we could all get over the fact those words would appear frequently. Also, it was hilarious.
