Notably, Jeffries has been saying this occasionally on the Sunday shows for months now. It's a "slogan" in the sense that it's how he summarizes the Democratic approach to social welfare, not in the sense that they're slapping it on bumper stickers and making ads out of it.

“The new deal” means something because it’s in the past. If democrats proposed something equally contentless now like I don’t know, build back better, you think it in itself would inspire people?
