I’m a fat, queer artist based in western North Carolina. I love mountains and waterfalls. I make quilts, knit sweaters & shawls, and weave tapestries. I make art on paper with graphite, colored pencils, and watercolors.

Is #knitting 🧶 political?

My dude.

Civilization literally would not exist without string.

Just ordered mine!
Okay, so I was at this table with my friend the bubble letterer, who wrote “Free” in their PROFESSIONAL-grade bubble letters. It made someone big mad. So bubble person and I made some #popupleftistsupplydepot merch. Proceeds to MIRAC MN. Popupsupplies.printful.me

I've stared into the futility of writing my entire life. I mean yes, the robots are breaking my heart but so did my creative writing degree

I am always re-learning this one
Practice the things you're bad at and want to get good at - but also practice the things you're already good at and which are easy for you because it'll be pleasing to do and give you a little extra motivation to get better at the the things you're bad at.

Draaw it! Draw it again!
it doesn't matter if that one topic you want to draw has been made millions of times already. only YOU can create it in your style and that makes the art unique. also just draw that damn thing because you enjoy it!!!! it's actually the only reason you need

I think my 2026 goal is “be more bored.” For art!
Give yourself time to be bored

Having moments when you have zero stimulation is incredibly important to give the creative side of your brain a good workout

It doesn’t have to be for hours ! A nice 10 minute stroll without distractions for instance is a good start

Draw some more! Fill another page! And another!
Yknow you can just do sketches for the rest of your life and not ever worry about making full pieces or evem doing cleanup. I recommend that actually. Draw more often with less quality.

For real
There are 10,000 bad drawings in you. Start getting them out of you as early as possible.

Happy Solstice!
TOMORROW IS THE WINTER SOLSTICE AND Y'ALL KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. It is time for the women (defined broadly) to hunt the Year King through the woods and tear him apart with their bare hands!

My employer wants new headshots for all employees. For some unknowable reason, they have decided on accomplishing this by using AI to scrub through all the saved zoom recordings and generating a composite image from all the times we appear on calls

Yes! I am solidly in my “weird little drawings” era and I’m loving every fucking minute
I think most artists hit a point where they’re like, well if I can’t be the best artist, I shall be the most ME artist.

💯
This is correct. Examples:

Good good coffee: Kicking Horse, Dirty Girl
Good bad coffee: Most diners, McDonald's
Bad good coffee: Starbucks, most hipster places that look down on drip
Bad bad coffee: Taco Bell (most non-McDs fast food really), the Hotcake House by Milwaukie and Powell in Portland.
So @caseyplett.com has this theory that there are four quadrants of coffee: "good good coffee"; "bad good coffee"; good bad coffee" and "bad bad coffee" and idk if this is true but it is def true of red Bordeaux

Successfully got my Covid vax today! My doc had to write me an Rx, which he faxed to the pharmacy, then I made an appt online. All good, but then found out my insurance company would not cover it?!? Luckily I was able to pay the $194(😳) out of pocket. Will file an insurance appeal tomorrow

There was a team trivia event today at work. Organizers used AI to generate questions AND answers. Many answers were pure hallucination. Tempers flared when correct answers were marked as wrong. Organizer doubled down and asked AI “is ___ a good answer for ___” and was surprised by weird results

Wholeheartedly agree! Please don’t make me comfort you while I’m trying to receive a compliment
please don't drag yourself down when you want to compliment someone's art (or anything, really!). saying "this is so cool" is way better than "this is so cool, i could never do this :("

it really doesn't make praise better, quite the opposite!

This soothes my brain
Hey ding-dongs, let’s have a chit-chat about 'Ablaut reduplication.'

If you have three words, the order usually goes 'I-A-O.'
-tic-tac-toe

If there are only two words, ‘I’ is the first and the second is either ‘A’ or ‘O.’
