An important article from @thebulwark.com about what Regime Change actually takes.

What ‘Regime Change’ in Venezuela Would Really Mean
It’s not clear the administration has settled on a goal, much less considered the consequences.

Interesting take on LLMs vs. generalized AI (which, to be fair, probably isn’t better, despite being different).
Ex-Meta chief AI scientist Yann LeCun has Lunch with the FT and in one of those instances so rare that you know he didn't sign an NDA, says exactly why as.ft.com/r/e503690d-8...

This datapoint explains an awful lot.
Thinking this is wrong is not radical.
Thinking it isn’t is.

Seems like a good approach.
Next time someone says they don’t have to apologize for being white anymore, ask them to tell about the most recent time they were forced to apologize for being white and who made them do it.

“Proof by repeated assertion” is not, in fact, actually a strong argument in and of itself.
So, Chuck’s rant is a worthwhile read on its own, but it got me thinking about how many arguments for gen ai/llm use cite benefits without mentioning what those benefits would actually be.

It is, I think, why they work so hard to normalize the idea of “inevitably”

The holidays bring a lot up for people. Some are full of joy. Some are just trying to get through the day. Wherever this lands, it’s okay. May today give you a moment to breathe, a reason to smile, and a reminder that you matter.

We just want to say, it’s ok to feel sad during the holidays. It’s not selfish, it’s not weakness. It’s grief. It’s ok to grieve. Especially now.

And we’re sending a special hug to all of you who are facing the people who should have loved you best, but chose to hurt you instead. We see you. 💚

My favorite tyrant joke: a man comes every day and peers at the front page of the newspaper without buying it.

The newspaper vendor says, "what are you looking for?"
"An obituary."
"Obituaries aren't on the front page."
"This one will be."

This definitely rings largely true to me, and gets at why I have discomfort about Newsome and the rest of the more traditional Democrats.

Stand for something shouldn’t be a radical idea!
Gavin "I have one good idea for every three monstrous acts I perform" Newsom is in the news demanding that Democrats be more "socially normal", and this one is definitely not ending up in the "good idea" bucket.

It's just a new way to spin the failing "embrace the center", but there's a fun twist.
