i think there's a deliberate-but-incoherent push by AI companies to cause material harm to businesses using their products, then snap up the market share from those businesses when they fall. "disruptive innovation" doctrine in decadent form
I know I'm an anti-AI extremist (ie, correct about AI) but surely even people who think using this garbage is a good idea must realize how stupid it is to give an LLM unfettered access to your email inbox, including letting it answer emails for you without supervision?

100% my experience. at some point during reading a light goes on, and you realize "oh... the institutionalized child abuse is *normal* to her."
i started reading the series when we got it in north america in 1998, i was like "this is just kinda regular britain but shittier. clearly this is to make a point and this'll change with the plot" and then it didn't. and i was like "i guess she loves only the shittiest parts of britain"
That was the real, subtler disappointment of HP: not that it ended clumsily or with unpopular couples, but that it had the world's attention - a real, lightning chance to make an impression on everyone - and it said "see? trying to change things is wrong."

the sphinx doesn't mean to speak in riddles. she's very isolated, out there in the desert, and sadly her communication skills were never great even before they deteriorated. also low blood sugar makes it worse.
