From (a) Magna Carta, apparently. Well ahead of the game
Omnes kydelli de cetero deponantur penitus de Thamisia, et de Medewaye, et per totam Angliam, nisi per costeram maris.

All fish-weirs are in future to be entirely removed from the Thames and the Medway, and throughout the whole of England, except on the sea-coast.

Protected cycle lanes, floating bus stops, and low-traffic areas all help people like Susie to get around

We should call them “mobility lanes” and build them everywhere, at pace
Where would you go?

This Summer, one of our former loan recipients took herself on her first solo trike adventure on a trip up to Edinburgh with her Van Raam Easy Rider Compact.

Have been thinking about “immigration has been tearing this country apart.” Surely I’m not the only person to think that it isn’t true, but inflamed rhetoric about immigration by politicians is what is tearing this country apart and so statements like that only makes it worse.

Also excellent and thoughtful
Quick thread on the BBC and the political and societal significance of recent developments:

One of the main reasons the UK has historically been so much less polarised than the US, is that Britain has a shared source of information, consumed and trusted by most people regardless of their politics.

Well worth your time. And I completely agree with the conclusion. If the Supreme Court can manage its own appointments without political interference, so too can the BBC.
The reaction to the Panorama edit has been nothing short of hysterical. Yes the BBC has some impartiality problems. But its biggest isn't the one you think.

New piece from me.

What you’re witnessing is a populist assault on the BBC.

This is not an institutional scandal in any meaningful sense of the word. It is an attack on public service broadcasting.

Always good to understand what other UK cities are doing to combat congestion and pollution and build a thriving city.
Can we learn from Oxford*?

*similarities: large travel to work area, university city, population size, near motorway.
differences: medieval centre, complete ring road.

Tell me how your bus journeys are going since Oxford's Congestion Charge was launched! Just had the below message.

"Oh my God... The buses on Cowley Road are so much faster. Like my journey to the station this morning was fully 20-25 mins faster than pre charge."

Almost nobody in the Cons Party or beyond it had noticed that the Shadow Home Secretary with two other frontbenchers and 5 backbenchers tabled a bill in May to deport 3 million people - stripping almost every pensioner, parent or nurse who did not take out citizenship of their right to live here

Exeter St Davids, however, as one of the fastest growing stations in the country and the busiest in Devon, is looking tired. Lots of opportunities, but little in the way of action. It needs a full redevelopment as part of a long term masterplan.

We have built a society in which people of different skin tones, religious backgrounds & cultures get along, share power, work alongside each other, procreate with each other, recognise the each other’s humanity and democratic rights. It is a STUNNING ACHIEVEMENT OF WORLD HISTORIC PROPORTIONS.
I know statistics are poorly understood and are misused. But facts matter

Between the 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021 Census *every* ethnic group in the UK has become *less* geographically segregated and *all* groups, majority and minorities, are more likely to interact with people not like them
