As American politics descends into chaos, 'big oil' still produces 3 billion gallons of toxic waste every day—an unwanted by-product of drilling for oil. 'Brine' is poisonous & radioactive—disposal is a huge problem. The latest from FacingFuture.tv, with Justin Nobel

If UK news shows are going to give Nigel Farage a platform to spout this absolute boll**** about Brexit & the vaccine rollout (unchallenged) I’ll happily come back every week to correct it

We cannot allow them to rewrite history.

If you agree share this FACT CHECK widely

If you haven't done this already, please sign..... there's no such thing as sustainable aviation. Heathrow does not need a third runway.

Don't expand Heathrow Airport!
URGENT: The Government could let a third runway be built at Heathrow Airport. It would spell bad news for the environment - and could see flight prices go up £40 per ticket, so bad for our pockets too...

Farage’s refusal to condemn Musk’s outrageous statements shows total unfitness for public office. But @bbclaurak.bsky.social fails to hold him to account & allows whole interview to be on his terms. No focus on Reform’s divisive policies & no effective challenge to his dangerous insinuations

The Climate Change Act 2008 held so much potential, but IMO the CCC, alongside prestige seeking academics (usually senior) & a supine press have squandered its potential thro’ years of dishonest tales of green & even pseudo-tech. We’ve run scared of rocking the boat, preferring a shared delusion.

Over an almost instantaneous period we’ve rocketed in consumption of virtually everything & shovelled huge levels of sometimes toxic wastes out into the environment. We’ve looted the past & polluted the future - & then celebrated how clever we are to have such a materially rich present (for some!).

1. The implicit deal behind Starmerism was this: you might not like what he stands for (or fails to stand for), but at least he knows how to win elections. If you want the Tories out, he’s your only hope.
But now? It’s as if he’s going out of his way to lose in 2029. 🧵

The Conference of Oil Producers (COP29) succeeded again. The purpose of COPs is to delay meaningful action on climate change so as to permit ongoing high levels of fossil fuel use. This is true even for so-called & PR-slick world leading nations eg. the UK Rosebank oil field & UK airport expansion!

As COP29 closes (fiasco from a climate perspective or success if you’re a fossil fuel exec or weak leader) attached are two contrasting views of the UK’s climate position.

(Post-COP, the UK Govt can maintain both its ‘hands-off’ approach to opening up Rosebank & its support for airport expansion.)
