The Virginia legislature today passed four constitutional amendments, all by day 3 of 2026 session:
—protect abortion rights
—repeal the same-sex marriage ban
—allow mid-decade redistricting
—greatly expand voting rights restoration.
These will all go to 2026 referendums.

Every time someone says “in the upcoming midterm election,” I feel this sort of sad trombone feeling, because I think Trump is going to invoke the Insurrection Act at some point and find a way to cancel the elections or do things like confiscate votes.

I think Dem strategists and comms/data folks need to recognize that we are in a period of discontinuity. What's happening now is not like what's come before. It's all new. And we need to stay close to the data that's in front of us, not bring old fights into the ones we now find ourselves in.

They pretended everything was normal and that led to the OBBB with more than $100B in money for ICE. Senate Dems MUST fight now.
