OMG, this is amazing. ❤️😭😭 Even though this holiday still kinda creeps me out (not a fan of the skulls!).
Venice Bakery is remembering those that have died in ICE custody this year by adding them to their community altar for Dia de Los Muertos.

But I expanded on and clarified my first comment. Right here in this thread!
He’s such a bumbling, giant doofus. 🤦🏻‍♀️
I said this just a couple comments ago, in my discussion with you:
Why are any of you interpreting what I said as one and done? I never said that, nor even implied it. Learning is lifelong. But good thinking and writing skills need to begin in high school.
Isn’t that what they said? That these are skills people should be practicing throughout college and beyond?
I learned these skills in high school, as people should. College profs shouldn’t have to be teaching remedial skills and suffering from depression/burnout as these profs clearly are. Not sure why you are taking this as some kind of challenge.
Wondering why people are interpreting my irritation that college freshmen have to be taught remedial skills they should have been taught in high school as an objection to lifelong learning?
I think everyone can indulge in learning for the sake of learning. I learned the skills mentioned in high school. Yes, I refined them in college and beyond, but I didn’t show up unprepared.
I agree. But I’m talking about basic skills, which is what the post sounded like. Remedial skills. Not the skills people should be challenged on throughout college and beyond.

The Trump Administration’s assertion that it can't use SNAP’s contingency reserves for SNAP benefits is contrary to:
▪️The plain language of the law
▪️Their own (now deleted) shutdown plan
▪️Guidance from prior Administrations

We have the receipts:
SNAP’s Contingency Reserve Is Available for Regular SNAP Benefits, as USDA and OMB Have Ruled in Past
The Administration must use all available options to fund November benefits for the 1 in 8 people in the U.S. who need SNAP to afford their grocery bill.

Colleges don’t teach people how to do professional writing. They do teach critical thinking (depending on major) but that’s across all the classes. The ability to write should be something they get in high school. I was an English major, man. I know this stuff.

NEW: The Trump administration is racing to deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia as soon as Friday, conceding it does not intend to follow through on his criminal case despite earlier assurances.

We also vax for both polio and measles.
Again, you’re not saying anything we don’t know. Highly contagious does not equal highly dangerous. The claim was that people (starving people?) used to die or be crippled by measles and polio. I pointed out where this was accurate and where it wasn’t. For both diseases.
Smallpox only exists in labs and your scenario is pretty unlikely, but OK.
If one in 20 get sick and 1 or 2 in 1000 die, then most kids who get pneumonia recover. These are not new stats you’re posting.
Yes, rarely. Historically speaking, people were never as afraid of measles as of polio. This recent trend of acting like measles was a major killer needs to go.

So Argentina gets a $40 billion bailout from our tax dollars but devastated small towns here at home — nothing.
No. Measles is a childhood disease and is not generally crippling. Polio is crippling but was only at a peak in the late 40s to early 50s. However, being malnourished makes you more susceptible to illness. Malnourishment happens more often than starvation. It’s still bad.
My son is starting college and his profs are making him hand-write stuff. I’m glad. I homeschooled him and made sure he learned cursive.
You shouldn’t have to be teaching critical thinking and writing skills to college students, IMO. They should already come with that from high school.
Phasing out slowly just doesn’t scream “I can’t stomach this anymore.” That’s the question mark floating around in my head.
