Bei den ganzen Maßnahmen, die Politiker:innen von Johann Wadephul über Friedrich Merz bis Julia Klöckner gegen Iran ankündigen, spricht niemand von Visa-Erleichterungen. Seit Jahren ist es für Iraner:innen fast unmöglich, ein Visum für Deutschland zu bekommen. Ah damn, das wäre ja echte Solidarität.

Wieder mal ein wunderbares Beispiel, wie man NICHT mit Umfragen umgehen sollte. Generell schwierig, so viele Informationen vor einer Frage zu geben, weil diese sehr anders interpretiert werden können. Was bei Umfragen wichtig ist, haben wir vor kurzem aufgeschrieben (wenn auch ein anderer Kontext)👇🏼

Generell schwierig, so viele Informationen vor einer Frage zu geben, weil diese sehr anders interpretiert werden können. This! I cannot stress enough how dramatic this loss of reputation in third states is. The EU chances of stopping the war were always low, but signals, symbolic action, and sanctions would have been extremely important. It will be haunted by the consequences for decades.
Sanchez is completely right and the EU as well as individual European countries will pay the price for years to come. Their complicity on Gaza has cost Europe significant soft power in the Global South.

Many comments on Germany‘s restrictions of arms exports to Israel miss one crucial part: international reputation. These restrictions will not stop the war, but they will be noticed in third states. We shouldn’t downplay the importance of „symbolic policies“ in IR.
