One of the insane facts I discovered writing this article is that WA collects more revenue from motorists in registration than it collects from fossil fuel companies in gas royalties
Murray Watt is a perfect model of the modern Labor politician. President of Young Labor. Chief of staff for a Premier. Boss of the Qld Left. Now he’s the Environment Minister with responsibility for a critical decision. He chose to destroy the environment. www.crikey.com.au/2025/05/29/m...
Watt waves through Woodside, and Labor’s light on the hill becomes a gas flare
The newly minted environment minister faced a stark choice: protect the environment, or approve a massive fossil fuel development that will destroy the environment. He chose destruction.

Well that was a hat trick own Goal by the Liberal Party.
Not only made them look as foolish as they are but created a social media buz around Abbie that has generated more interest in the two interviews.

Typical of libs to attack podcaster Abbie Chatfield for daring to be young, female & successful. Lib senators complained to AEC about her interview w Albanese. Chatfield: 'it terrifies me that these are the strategies that the Liberal Party resort to' #auspol www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

I don’t know how I didn’t see this before.

The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias. The shorthand is that people overestimate their skills/knowledge in a given domain, because they lack the knowledge to assess their own competence.

ChatGPT etc have automated the Dunning-Kruger effect.

If more journalists actually did their jobs, any time Dutton called something woke they’d ask him ‘What do you mean, do you know what woke _actually_ means?’. But instead most just let it through, because they’re lazy and a big part of the problem.

This is pretty fucked up.
As @amyremeikis.bsky.social reports - the changes to the environmental laws the govt is about to introduce are F*CKING AWFUL.
They are not just about salmon - but will apply EVERYWHERE

Politically, it very much seems Albanese has over-ruled Plibersek.

Any other Australian MPs saying this? Maybe you should check what your favourites are doing.
News today that the death toll in Gaza has reached 400 since the most recent airstrikes. 50,000 people have already lost their lives in this ongoing genocide.

Australia needs to step up, sanction Netanyahu, end the two way arms trade & recognise Palestine.

Today marks the five year anniversary of Covid being declared a pandemic. Some things I want people to remember:

The threat is not gone. People are still dying and becoming disabled every single day

COVID is airborne. It’s always been airborne.

Thinking about how despite the global impact of Long Covid being estimated at 400 million people, mainstream media coverage of it is so infrequent, inaccurate and harmful that a group of journos had to create their own outlet to ensure coverage of it (and thank god they did)
Join The Sick Times editors @betsyladyzhets.bsky.social and @heatherhogan.bsky.social for an evening commemorating Long COVID Awareness Day 2025 and the five-year anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic landing in New York City.

The deliberate disconnect from experts to the actual long term effects of the virus is a dishonest way of claiming mildness based on fatality rates cooked from the outset.
The increase of other causes that should be linked directly or indirectly to previous sars2 infections, keeps being "baffling".

So do I
I believe Australians are watching what is happening in the US with horror, and thinking how we don’t want the same thing here. Dutton is the same as Trump - cruel, vindictive, lying, divisive, only interested in power to enrich himself and his billionaire funders. I really hope Australians get it.

COVID was an opportunity to adapt & be a more inclusive society. We could have learned about airborne spread & adopted clean air standards. Improved ventilation. Made more outdoor spaces. Normalized masking.

Instead we’ve politicized infection control & made society less safe for everyone
