New expression of concerrn in @bmj.com possibly causing waves of concern among Swedish scientists who earn their careers by harvesting the formidable Swedish registries. When its not ok anymore to assume causal effects in observational trials where will be the fun left?

In my opinion the authors of any systematical review should not have such a tragicomical lengthy conflict of interest section like in this case

"A massive Swedish study examined hormonal birth control risks. But the nuances of such studies get lost on social media."
Comment: nuances were lost also in traditional media-outlets and the initial press-release by Uppsala University
A Swedish study found hormonal birth control is safe overall but shows a small breast cancer risk increase during use. TikTok claims it causes cancer as dangerous as smoking. Originally published by @kffhealthnews.org

Superintresting and learnfull blogg on HPV-vaccination which illustrated clearly how challenging triangulation for longterm clinical effects with meaningful surrogate endpoints are. My greatest respect for not using the Danish ø a single time

We've had to wait a long time to get to this point! With this new pair of Cochrane systematic reviews, the weight of the evidence has tipped very heavily in favor of HPV vaccination.

This is the kind of paper which is unethical to have behind paywall as it is directed to cancerpatients and their families. Reading might decrease unnecessary anxiety and stress and might improve quality of life and intimacy with loved ones while on chemotherapy. Recommended read.

En av våra cancerpatienter får idag utan krångel en blodtransfusion i hemtrakten i Fagersta. Jag blev nästan gråtfärdig. Många take home messages här i artikeln:
- fördel med små enheter och eget ansvar
-Alltid bra att utgå från patientens behov & få jobb gjort
”Vi pratar inte pengar” – modellen som gjort Fagersta till ett föredöme i nära vård
När andra fastnar i ekonomi gjorde Fagersta tvärtom: de slutade prata pengar och började samarbeta. Resultatet är ett närvårdsteam som på bara tre år gjort nära vård till vardag – och förändrat patien...

This is a problem for scientific communication. A total lack of causation can never be proven for anything. You cannot prove that playing cello in your underwear doesn't cause autism. These charlatans exploit that.
This is completely disgusting. Today, the CDC updated their vaccine safety page. It now says:

“The claim "vaccines do not cause autism" is not an evidence-based claim because studies have not ruled out the possibility that infant vaccines cause autism”.
November 20, 2025 at 6:30 AM
To fail in critical assessment of the published scientifical litterature (which implies to identify the shitty garbage part of published research) costs life
CDC has overhauled its website to assert that “the claim ‘vaccines do not cause autism’ is not an evidence-based claim”
November 20, 2025 at 5:53 AM
Its bad that this important patient-centered article is not open-access. The only advice i give to my patients on chemotherapy (not backed by evidence) is that they might avoid to kiss a person with fever. And that they should try to gather some cool moments of gold while on this toxic treatment.

Are methodological and causal inference errors creating a false impression that the gut microbiome causes autism? In this strong analysis, Mitchell, Dahly, and Bishop question the evidence.

They show that triangulation in science requires multiple robust lines of research.
The link between the gut #microbiome and autism is not backed by science, researchers say.

Detection for fabricated or unlikely data in RCT's should be mandatory for HTA-units as well 👇
i agree. Problem is that peer review is not geared up for detection of fabricated data. Sadly I think we need to be more alert to this. Inclusion of raw data v helpful in this case - and the discrepancies in age hit you as soon as you open the file. But deposited data should be .csv! @bmj.com

Good study which contributes to informed decision making of women when choosing contraceptives. But also an example of failed communication of research findings in the 🇸🇪 media. A school-book example imo where it should be forbidden to use relative risks and mandatory with absolute risk.
Both combined and progestin-only contraceptives are linked to increased breast cancer risk, with greater risk observed for progestin-only, particularly desogestrel-containing products. ja.ma/47lXKLe

Good example of nice description of disadvantages with multidisciplinary conferences in cancer-care and bad solutions (AI as the rescue). My 2 cents: centralization has gone too far. Invest in oncologists close to patients and listen to them and you'll do better decisions www.bmj.com/content/391/...

This is an excellent point that generalizes.
Researchers often defend suboptimal practices by referring to future studies with better designs.

But: Why would anybody run those studies when you can just throw a bunch of variables into a regression and make sweeping "preliminary" claims?

Still painful not to be able to read Cochrane Reviews during the first year in full. Much more painful that I wasted resources for far too many years with my misguided non-evidence routine to give blood transfusion to my cancer patients with Hb<100. #choosewisely
A Cochrane review found that, for most people, waiting for for their haemoglobin drop to lower levels before giving a transfusion was safe and means fewer transfusions in general.
