I found the UK government's public threat to prosecute a non-citizen (Sally Rooney) over support of an organization entirely legal in her home country a bit strange. States always traditionally shied away from making direct extra-territorial threats about police enforcement of domestic criminal law.

Whether you support them or not, a non-violent group being proscribed as terrorists should worry us all. They’ve targeted Pal Action because they’re effective, meaning all our rights are being curtailed because the establishment is afraid. Don’t let them get away with it.

BTW, this is after almost every Western leader has loudly committed themselves to safeguarding Israel.

What other industry could so brazenly demand immunity from the crimes they commit?

If Keir Starmer won't stand up to this blackmail, it's up to us to act.

We should all feel shame for this. We should all be asking ourselves what we’ve been doing to try and stop this genocide. We all have some power, however limited it might feel. Use your power and oppose this now, while you still have the chance. End the genocide, end the occupation, free Palestine.

Even worse, they’ve facilitated it all. Diplomatic cover, recon flights, weapons, it’s all been supplied by our government. They belong in The Hague.
British surgeon in Gaza says it is now ‘a slaughterhouse’

Never ever forget that Westminster did fuck all to stop the slaughter — Labour and Tories and two cheeks of the same rancid arse.

The BBC is *directly* responsible for the rise of Reform, for Brexit, via the path of treating BNP/UKIP like a real party and not someone's racist uncle down the pub.

Ed Davey was having to take up white water rafting to get a fraction of the airtime BBC has gifted the right wing.
NEW: With the media landscape is changing around our ears, what's the point of the BBC?

Tim Davie's answer - it's the thing that will stop us falling into polarised crisis where there are no shared facts.

Sorry, but this is just gross. He can’t address the point she’s actually making because he knows it’s true- he’s guided by nothing but self interest. No morals, no principles, no compassion. Apparently “grown ups” just resort to ad hominem attacks when they’re caught bang to rights, who knew 🫠

Love seeing Labourites who've been wallet-inspected by Keir Starmer complaining his Rivers of Blood-esque speech got taken out of context by lefties.

Bitch, it doesn't sound any better IN context, no matter how much flowery apologia you use to defend his rapid slide towards half-hearted fascism.

It wants to curb student visas and encourage more UK training: but wont fund unis or FE colleges.

It just tells voter they can have both. /2

Horrific rhetoric
If you thought the PM’s speech was punchy, his foreword to the immigration white paper says high net migration has done “incalculable damage” to the country.

That is a serious shift in tone for a Labour government/party.

Were last summer’s racist riots not enough for him? This is more than just sickening, it’s disturbing and incredibly frightening. Immigration is a good thing, on so many different levels, and I expect “grown ups” to take the time to explain why, not pander to the worst instincts of a tiny minority.
The Prime Minister imitating Enoch Powell’s ‘Rivers of Blood’ speech is sickening.

That speech fuelled decades of racism and division. Echoing it today is a disgrace. It adds to anti-migrant rhetoric that puts lives at risk.

Shame on you, Keir Starmer.

Why can’t a party with a +400 majority be honest with the public? We subsidise areas of the workforce not because of immigration, but because employers pay low wages employees can’t afford to live on do we can have ever more cheap goods, food and services.

The thing that strikes me most about this article is Starmer’s description of the Tory Party. One which “haven’t learnt the lessons of the last general election.”

However Labour themselves have not learned that lesson; raising the salience of immigration only boosts Reform.
PM explicit about the Reform-facing strategy to Sun on Sunday: “Certainly we were planning on the basis we were likely to be facing Reform at the next election in any event. So that coincides with our thinking. I think the Tory party is a busted flush” www.thesun.co.uk/news/3489342...

THIS! Performative cruelty from government is proof of Reform UK's agenda

Labour should concentrate on improving public services (including for immigrants) and the lives of people who've been gulled by Farage into thinking immigrants are the ones making life worse, rather than Austerity and Brexit.
Here's the real kicker in terms of policy though, none of this makes anyone's life better, so all it does is reinforces Reform's messaging. It doesn't change the root causes why Reform can weaponise migration, things like being disconnected from politics, cost of living etc. 9/

Ah yes, just what our struggling NHS needs, fewer doctors and nurses, and cuts to services. That’ll really help!
NHS planning to cut doctors/nurses jobs, maternity and A&E services to meet the govt's “eye watering” NHS savings.

Cuts will force more people to go private.

Healthcare must come before fiscal rules.

Private firms milking 30%-40% profit from NHS contracts. End privatisation.

Tax the rich.

It is absolutely shameful that trans people are leaving the Labour Party. Even worse Starmer and Streeting don’t give a fuck and are happy to lose the support of a tiny minority who they consider to be an electoral liability. Fuck you Starmer and Streeting. Leadership challenge now.
One of Labour’s last remaining trans councillors, Dylan Tippetts, has quit the Labour Party this morning over the party’s transphobia.

Dylan made headlines in 2022 when he was elected as Plymouth’s first openly trans councillor.

This is exactly the political strategy that just helped to deliver the Conservatives the biggest collapse in support of any party in British electoral history
