btw did you know you can subscribe to PBS for only like $5/mo or a $60 one-time for a year donation, and get access to their Passport streaming service? They mail you a little live programming guide and everything, too. The 40-something seasons of NOVA alone are worth it.
Donate to your local PBS/NPR stations. It's up to us now.

It’s every parent’s nightmare, isn’t it? you check your child’s bulletproof backpack and find a picture book about gay penguins

I cleaned out the closets in my house, thereby completing my last self imposed summer task before the end of June. Now experiencing a mild existential crisis?

All of this, every bit of it, traces back to the failure of the U.S. government to invest in public education for decades and expecting overworked and underpaid educators to make up the difference.

Moving closer to a "no" on that, I think...
Every day I wake up and check to see if the Ed Department still exists.

I'd love to be able to get caught up on my to-dos without having an ominous feeling that now something horrible will happen.

Off brand Pringles are the wrong shape. A bunch were broken, too. Calc III saves potato crisp products.

Y’all they cancelled the NSF MPS Ascend Program after encouraging underrepresented folks to only apply to it and not both the Ascend and the MSPRF. This is astronomically fucked up for many grad students and postdocs of color in math. #MathSky

NSF-funded postdoc labmates of mine have been told (by their POs!) to pull the rest of their funds for this year right now‼️

POs said they don't really have clear instructions but this info should be shared widely 🧪

We got our 7 year old a $21 mp4 player to give ourselves respite from her constant re-listening to podcasts. Also respite from our smart speakers not playing what she asks for and her constantly arguing with them. The whole house feels lighter.

Whoops, forgot to add this to my notices.
Here by “X” i mean a variable, not the platform where Nazis argue with pedophiles over how to close a Cybertruck glove compartment without amputating a finger.

Listen, a lot about teaching has only gotten harder over time, but gradescope has been such a positive for me. The real MVP.

Two classes until break, which will begin with a dozen-hour car drive and grading. Let's go.

I have decided that today I shall make a whole bunch of Indian food. Dal, papdi, muttar paneer, chicken curry, all curtesy of the excellent cookbook Thali by Maunika Gowardhan.

Today is the last of 2 and a half consecutive days of snow closures. Normally I'd be scrambling to make a plan to catch up. This week, I'm thankful for the time to regroup before fully returning to the public square.

Okay, but no one's talking about how you show up on a campus where many of your colleagues and students are going to be happy today.

One of the top things that I do as a teacher, that I know my students value, is lecture using a tablet and make those exact lecture notes available digitally. This is mostly handwritten technical math. I do this for many accessibility reasons: 1/n
