I was reading up on Zotero add ons and saw people talking about organizing their Zotero collections using the "Melville Dewey" system and I am fascinated.

K-12 schools are closed this week, so there are lots of kids on campus. Just saw a grown up and a kid riding skateboards, and it was cool watching the kid practice pushing up an incline. The adult was pushing mongo and it was tripping me out.

This year we have 4 pies for 3 people.
I cook for the LEFTOVERS on this holiday. I'm gonna have Indy buy at least one pie from Costco because I want to have pie for breakfast on Thursday, and then I will STILL WANT PIE.

An absolutely shocking letter from the House Committee on Education and Workforce to Berkeley, demanding, among other things, info on internal processes and syllabi.

LaTeX has struggled with making accessible documents for a long time, and I know there has been groups working on improving it for a while, but I'm also shocked it's still so bad.

Not shocked that a lot of folks who use LaTeX are complaining about accessibility laws.

Technology is grand, but all the CGI adds on the ice and boards for the Nashville-Pittsburgh hockey game in Stockholm are kind of distracting.

Partially because Swedes don’t care about UPMC, but also the odd blur anytime people skate over the ads (which is anytime they skate).

Is the University the work we engage in learning and research or of it the management of assets and debt?

With many universities, those who hold power are so removed from the actual work of research and learning, and so their decisions tend to protect capital.
One of the most important lessons you have to learn about what a university "is" is a very vulgar marxist distinction between its *managers* (directly or indirectly appointed by capital and/or state government) and its *labor,* who come to the university out of love and idealism.

If I had a dollar for every time I was told by the University something wouldn’t be possible because UC Path couldn’t handle the change we proposed, I could buy you a decent lunch.
I could go on! I haven’t even mentioned UC Path!! The point is, something is deeply and structurally wrong with the leadership of this university, and the victories you hear about come in spite of them.

I was talking to a grad student today about how being in a flow state for searching can end up in unexpected rabbit holes.

Looking for historical maps of West Oakland led me to question the existence of Emeryville and read about the history of the Oaks. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oaks_Pa...

Remember that time I said I didn't like ultra bright, blinking bike lights because they hurt my eyes and lots of cyclists asked why I wanted them to be less safe (without considering that I too ride a bike most of the time)?

That's when I knew this place had the juice.
