Im seeing discussions about consultations with congress, authorizations of force etc. I have to say this transcends any of what I would call sub constitutional technicalities. The president has gone to war with a foreign power and, it seems, kidnapped a foreign head of state on the basis of nothing.

I’m just a country biologist, but it seems like it might be bad that the dude who has access to all of your private data and can now turn off the US government’s ability to spend money with the flip of a switch is sharing Russian propaganda to vast audiences on the network that he owns.

I’m just a country biologist, but it seems like it might be bad that the dude who has access to all of your private data and can now turn off the US government’s ability to spend money with the flip of a switch is sharing Russian propaganda to vast audiences on the network that he owns.

I keep coming back to this post, a reminder of the unholy trinity of Miller Vought and Musk we are up against. Ezra Klein’s latest pod essay has key insight that “flood the zone” only works by maintaining flow of outrageous acts. So think of these three as competing suppliers for zone flooding.
There appear to be at least three separately operating heel factions breaking things within the government in wholly different ways right now. There's the Miller-headed immigration one, the DOGE/Elon one, and a Project 2025 OMB one. This dynamic hasn't showed up in mainstream reporting at all.

There are hundreds of Jan 6 convicts who will mistake their sudden freedom for invincibility; let’s hope they are arrested and convicted when they break state laws as they surely will.
A state conviction under a state law, and thus unpardonable by Trump, and immune to whatever nastiness he will install in the DOJ.

Listen to Professor Waters, an experienced, “good citizen” faculty member without an ideological axe to grind. There were excellent FAS deans before Gay so this is high praise.
I have not seen posts from Harvard faculty weighing in on Claudine Gay so for what it is worth, here is one faculty opinion. I have been a professor here since 1986. She was, by far, the very best dean of Arts and Sciences we have ever had. She was fair, collaborative and yet decisive. 1/n
