I will be online a lot less over the next three months. Going to take some time to rebalance my relationship with computers, smart phones, and social technology. I will still check DMs every now and then, but otherwise see you in 2026!
Final day to back starfriends on kickstarter! @robdubbin.bsky.social and @garrett.bsky.social have made a party game classic.
Looking for a party game that combines social deduction with the pleasant absurdity of rating animals, films, and the weather on a scale of ★ to ★★★★★? And it's just a simple deck of cards? AND it's live on Kickstarter now?!?! Guess what, STARFRIENDS has launched! www.kickstarter.com/projects/bra...
Starfriends: The 5-Star Game About What Everyone Else Thinks
A party game where you get into your friends' heads. Kinda like a blend of Wavelength and Letterboxd that fits into a deck of cards.

Movies! Some absolute bangers that I’ve seen recently: One Battle After Another, Wake Up Dead Man, Sentimental Value, Sirât, The World of Love, and Left Handed Girl. I recommend all in theaters if/when they are available near you!

My friends made a game to play with friends!
our new game, in brief! friend 1 gets a card with say ★★ on it, friend 2 pulls a ★★★★ card. then you draw a topic, maybe “animal,” and pick one (1) animal you think friend 1 would rate ★★ and friend 2 would rate ★★★★. guess right and win their card(s)! on KS soon: www.kickstarter.com/projects/bra...
Coming soon: Starfriends: The 5-Star Game About What Everyone Else Thinks
A play-anywhere fusion of Wavelength, Letterboxd, and Apples to Apples, for friends and strangers alike.

This is one thing giant movie studios can still do--the crazy big swing that costs a lot of money and is not tied to an algorithm or concern about "viewer retention rate at minute three"--that no other entity can. It is one reason the film ecosystem still needs them.
if you're a person who doesn't see the unalloyed good in Warner Bros spending $150 million on a loose Pynchon adaptation by Paul Thomas Anderson, we simply do not occupy the same reality

A few months ago I had a chicken poutine dish at Ma Poule Mouilée in Montreal, and I have thought about it almost every day since then. One of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten in my life. If you’re ever in Montreal, I highly recommend stopping by.

I have been following the pace of development of video AI products, and I think we are a couple years away from blockbuster quality VFX trailer shots being cheaper and easier to do than a close up of a good actor doing good acting.

PREDATORS is coming out in a limited release this weekend! A smart, powerful, and unsettling documentary.
Paramount have an incredible documentary called PREDATORS that they picked up at Sundance, all about the complicated legacy of To Catch A Predator. I hope it doesn’t get somehow lost or forgotten in the Skydance merger.

The thing about investing in public transit is that it *scales* — the more people use it, the better it gets. For everyone.
Whereas the more cars there are, the *worse* everything about driving gets. Traffic. Parking.
[Ever noticed that in just about every car ad it’s alone on the road? Yeah.]

It was nice to read this. Despair is easy and we all know hope is hard as fuck to come by right now. Hang on to your hat. Hang on to your hope. And may we all continue winding the clock for another tomorrow.

In my experience, those born between 1970 and 1985 don’t particularly give a shit what generation they are because the concept of “generations” wasn’t as aggressively force-fed down their throats by marketers as people who were born after 1985.
