Séamus is willing to let me keep going to conferences, but there are strict conditions.

Thank you @hayleybrabazon.bsky.social and @nwavc2025.bsky.social for hosting Séamus for his first academic conference! Such a lovely bunch of people and some really interesting papers too! 😊

My child is clearly the star of the conference 😆
An absolute highlight of today’s conference is our conference baby Séamus. His paper is performative, and it’s titled “how to be the cutest in the room”.

I've spent almost a decade researching and writing about incredibly difficult histories. I was always able to compartmentalise and deal with it.

All of a sudden, since coming back from maternity leave, I can't hack it at all. It's all too upsetting.

How can I go back to how I was??

Special thanks to my delightful baby who decided to pull my top down and share his favourite thing in the world (my boob) with everyone on the zoom call 🫠

I grew up in a flat in central London. Moved to a town when I was 12 and my God, I was convinced we were about to all be killed in our beds the first time I heard what turned out to be a pair of loved up foxes
The noise they make - you can see why people used to believe in monsters and banshees and demons haunting the night.
Bloody hell, the foxes are shagging…

Not to have a go at whoever writes the Birkbeck bulletin emails, but there cannot possibly be "ten things you need to know at Birkbeck" every single week.

Marianne Faithful was once hospitalised in Dublin. My aunt was the Night Sister. A young man turned up at the door very late at night to see Marianne but Ena refused to let him in.
"But I'm Mick Jagger!" he cried.
"I don't care who you are" said Ena as she slammed the door in his face.

I'm really gutted about this.

I never asked to be on in the first place"

I'm now on the new waiting list. Which is six months long 😬 Should get some therapy in time for his first birthday 🤪
I was referred to the local perinatal mental health team within days of having the baby.

For the last 5 months I've been on a waiting list for an assessment. The assessment is today and then I'll be placed on another waiting list.

I've basically spent 5 months waiting to wait 😬
