Many of DOGE’s “wall of savings” and canceled contracts include many eye-popping “receipts.”

There’s just one problem, @janetimm.bsky.social writes:

Many of the so-called receipts aren’t receipts. They’re negotiated agreements with known government contractors, who might provide future services.
Dozens of DOGE ‘receipts’ saved no money and killed contracts meant to boost efficiency
Many of the receipts published by Elon Musk’s DOGE aren’t receipts at all — they’re negotiated deals with vetted vendors who might do future government work.

Budget experts say that even if President Trump succeeds at slashing the spending Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency is targeting, his policy proposals like steep tax cuts would still substantially add to the deficit.

More from @sahilkapur.bsky.social:
Despite DOGE, Trump's agenda calls for adding trillions of dollars to U.S debt
Budget experts say Trump’s tax and spending priorities would increase red ink, even as he boasts of balancing the budget. “I don’t think their rhetoric matches reality,” says one.

One #Oscars voter was audibly angry about ‘DUNE 2’ not being nominated in more categories.

“How has Denis not won four Oscars already? I don’t understand how the studio and, quite frankly, us Oscar voters fuck this up so bad?”

The thing is, I feel like if someone truly, accidentally, & unintentionally made a n*zi salute on a national stage, they would be appropriately horrified by it and apologize. And when they don’t ….. it says everything.

The Buffalo Bills are now 10% private equity controlled.

And the Miami Dolphins are now 10% owned by private equity as well.

Well, isn’t that convenient? Musk gets named to the fake department of DOGE, and suddenly NASA’s future is up for debate—just as SpaceX is poised to cash in. Funny how “efficiency” seems to mean redirecting public funds straight into private pockets.

There have been a lot of times where I feel like we need to have honest discussions on the left about what has worked and what hasn’t, share observations without judgement, but it feels like there isn’t much space for it. I think it’s holding us back.

I wonder how and where we can accomplish that.
