people lost their income, community, news source. all in one go. it's not just an app with funny videos. it's people's livelihoods. beyond shops and creator fund, the algorithm put small businesses back on the map. bookstores, cafes, artists, musicians. the loss of tiktok IS the loss of democracy.
People being more upset about losing TikTok than the loss of democracy is pretty telling.

Just a reminder of some of the context around the TikTok ban: In 2020, Trump tried to ban it via executive order a couple months after K-pop fans used it to organize fake signups to Trump’s Tulsa rally, which led him to publicly overestimate how large the crowd size would be.

This outcome seems more likely every day.
I for one am excited for TikTok to show me a splashy "The US GOVERNMENT HAS DESTROYED EVERYTHING YOU LOVE" screen when I open the app next week followed by Donald Trump crawling through glass to get it back because it helped get him elected thus solidifying him as a HERO OF THE EVERYDAY AMERICAN.
