I worked in Silicon Valley during the Dot-Bomb collapse. I could drive 101 from San Jose to Palo Alto and only see 3 or 4 cars on the way. I know scores of families that were destroyed when their stock-option pay became worthless... but was still taxed at full value. Good times.

i am very exhausted by disinformation about the cost of transition healthcare. it costs less than $100 for 1-2 years of hormones, depending on your exact sourcing. presenting HRT as impossibly expensive and inaccessible to people who need HRT but don't know how is equivalent to medical gatekeeping.

Poor costs you. Not just money, not just time, but your mental health. Your capacity for grief and struggle. You burn whatever doesn't have an immediate return to keep the heat on, the lights. Food in your kids' bellies. And in a place like the US, poor costs you social connection. A leg up. Hope.
