This is a thread-waisted wasp digger. I tend to chase insects until I get a good shot, and I love this one. I took the picture in Florida. 😊 #insects #photography #naturephotography #wasp

I find the epilogue to be the salve you need after the last chapter. Without it the books end on very bleak and exhausted note. Wonderful, but drainingly perfect. It gives a glimmer of hope and humour.

If The Expanse is anything to go by, we will survive and evolve to hate and kill each others in space.
But since you have read the books, you know that the last epilogue ends with some strangers having a beer together and nothing is more optimistic than that

Oh, I'm more optimistic than that. Well, optimistic probably isn't the word but I think it's either total annihilation OR full luxury queer space communism.

Granted, it looks more like the first at the mo. But, as I said, I try to remain hopeful.

There can be no sarcasm on social media*, no level of piquancy. Because even if most people do get it, the 10% who don't will @ you to fucking death.

Just re-watched tv series #TheExpanse (yes, I've read the books) and the last scene always kills me.

The Rocinante with that backdrop. I'm not saying it's as utopian as Trek but at least it's hopeful.

I hope humanity makes it. Looking around at now, I doubt we will.

But I hope we do.

A Government of cowards.

Rather than tackle inequality - they've gone for pensioners, disabled people and now it's people fleeing war and persecution.

They can't get away with this.

I'm thrilled that @electricliterature.com has published this gorgeous story from the anthology WE WILL RISE AGAIN, which I co-edited with @older.bsky.social and @drkarenlord.bsky.social ... you can pre-order the anthology now, or pick it up at your local bookstore after it drops on 12/2!
Full warning: this story made me cry, because of how accurately and beautifully it peels back the layers of oppression, self-censorship, exile, community, rebuilding. A beautiful representative from the forthcoming anthology We Will Rise Again, out on Dec 2!
