That justplainbob from over there. Retired Minnesotan who abides in Stately Moffitt Manor with Mrs. Lungs.
Just watched (again) the car chase scene in Bullitt, the movie car chase scene all other movie car chase scenes are judged by and still found wanting, 57 years later.

If you have had a lungful of tear gas, pepper spray, or any of the other things the authorities are flinging at citizens for some time now, I hear you, and yes, I have felt that. too.

You are not alone, you are not forgotten, and our time is coming.

Wishing best for MPR journalist Kerem Yücel, injured at an anti-ICE protest today, and robust state charges against the masked thugs who hurt him today.

On a day with miserable weather, we were CRAZY BUSY at the recycling center today. The boss thinks that many people want to park in their garages tonight, but had to move out boxes and other recyclables to make that happen.

Makes sense.

Either way, much was recycled, and my old butt got kicked.

"Two-story monster robot trucks, eh? What could go wrong?"
The largest trucks ever used in Minnesota’s iron mines were purchased by Mesabi Metallics, an iron ore mine under construction in Nashwauk.

The trucks are designed to be operated autonomously – without drivers. The truck can haul 400 tons of rock and ore out of the mine in a single load.

Those teevee news stories about holiday travel give the false impression that EVERYONE is traveling. Instead, how about:

* An immigrant/refugee family's 1st Thanksgiving in the US
* A profile on folks who work on the holidays
* What does a pro chef serve on Thanksgiving?

There are other stories...

After retiring from my (mostly) white collar, office-based career, I sought volunteer work in a blue collar, hands-on environment.

Why? I can't say for sure, but I think I really wanted my next chapter to be different. Also, there is a certain satisfaction in manual labor not found elsewhere.

Someone needs to dig deeper to see if ANYONE convicted or charged is here on TPS.

"Some of the people charged and convicted in those cases came to Minnesota from Somalia, although it’s not clear that any of them are on temporary protected status."

Both the specialists I see are foreign-born physicians. While I'm glad they are here for me, I wouldn't recommend the US to anyone until we become a better nation than we are now.

Tonight's viewing: The Great Escaper. It's one of two movies based on the real-life WW2 vet Bernard Jordan, who took off from a nursing facility in England to attend a D-Day anniversary event in France. Michael Caine is in this one, Pierce Brosnan starred in the other movie. It's on TPT tonight.

Most cases of "stolen valor" are people who tell lies about themselves. Sometimes it is exaggerating their military service, other times people who never served claim they had.

THIS guy took it to a whole different level, and I'm glad he got convicted. www.mprnews.org/story/2025/1...
Jury convicts Minnesota man of faking Purple Heart, POW medals in 'stolen valor' scheme to steal VA benefits

Since the subject of "unlawful orders" has come up again, I will again mention that no one in the U.S. military knows exactly what that means. It was never explained to me when I was in the Army, and I doubt anything has changed.
